The SPLC seeks a Hate & Prevention Fellow who is passionate about social justice! 


The Fellow, Prevention & Partnerships leads community education programs to prevent radicalization among youth, focusing on white supremacy, male supremacy, and other extremisms. This role aligns with SPLC's public health approach, prioritizing non-carceral interventions, victim-survivor responsiveness, community-centered practices, and evidence-based resources.

Working with the Deputy Director and Senior Program Manager, the Fellow engages communities to identify early signs of radicalization, intervene safely, and build local intervention networks. The role supports communities affected by hate and extremism.

This position adapts SPLC' s evidence-based resources to address online and offline radicalization, focusing on identity-based hate, misogyny, and bigotry, while considering community needs. This two-year fellowship will travel (up to 35%) within the U.S. and internationally, as needed, and is highly collaborative.

Who You Are

Possesses Socio-Cultural & Contextual Awareness. Demonstrates an understanding of the societal, cultural, and political factors that drive radicalization by integrating knowledge of local community dynamics into educational practice and recognizing systemic influences such as discrimination, identity threats, and social isolation.

Trauma- informed insight. Demonstrates an understanding of how trauma, marginalization, and identity struggles shape an individual's experiences and vulnerabilities. Consistently avoids re-traumatizing language and interactions, and recognizes how trauma can increase susceptibility to extremist recruitment.

Programmatic Designer. Designs evidence-based interventions with clear objectives and learning outcomes, and systematically measures impact by tracking participant progress and engagement.

Skilled Facilitator. Effectively manages group dynamics, dialogue, and conflict by encouraging participation from quieter voices and intervening respectfully when harmful language arises.

Mission, Vision & Values Alignment. Demonstrates an understanding of and a commitment to SPLC's mission, vision and values.

What You'll Do

Build sustainable and trusting relationships with community members, allies, and partners online and in-person. Collaborates to create culturally responsive strategies that promote collective visioning, cohesive learning, and prevention resources. Develops training materials focused on preventing extremism and supporting hate crime victims with cross-departmental support.

Conduct 4-8 trainings or workshops monthly, either virtually or in-person, and represents the SPLC at events and meetings. Travel will be reasonable, prioritizing the Fellow's well-being and work-life balance.

Build confidence and promotes intervention through restorative methods that focus on youth safety and support for those targeted by extremists. It's vital to provide participants with tools to identify radicalization and extremism. Collaborative and active learning techniques are essential, including facilitation styles that emphasize social justice, antiracism, critical reflection, diverse perspectives, and practical problem-solving.

Work closely with the SPLC-MEAL department, partners, and communities to gather and integrate participant needs, feedback, and emerging research. This collaboration aims to continuously enhance training content, delivery methods, and community impact, as well as improve program and project management systems.

Utilize creative and critical thinking to tackle complex research questions, focusing on intersectionality, diverse perspectives, and authentic self-reflection. Combines formal training with self-directed learning to uphold issue-based expertise and develop role-related skills, advancing strategy and ensuring positive outcomes.

Maintain program and project documentation, including stakeholder tracking, training session records, participant feedback, and operational assets, in line with SPLC and partner requirements. Responds reliably to inquiries from stakeholders such as donors and journalists, and collaborates on innovative strategies with SPLC's Communications, Development, JEDI, and MEAL departments.

Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.

Minimum Qualifications 

We are committed to equitable hiring practices, therefore you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role.

  • Minimum three (3) years experience in professional training and group facilitation, with a focus on youth and adult learning, instruction, and/or teaching within educational institutions, community organizations, or advocacy-based settings; and
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, social sciences or related field.

Compensation & Benefits

This is an exempt role, and the minimum starting salary is $ 84,905 annually. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Where & How You'll Work 

This role has the following work designation options:

  • Local Remote: Will work remotely, but is expected to attend work- related activities that occur at the SPLC offices or in the states in which the SPLC operates.
  • Telework: Will work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days per week from an alternative work location.
  • This position will report to the Deputy Director, Prevention & Partnerships.

Other Special Considerations 

This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions. This position will travel up to 35% of the time.
