SHIPPING SPECIALIST

As a Shipping Specialist, you will be responsible for the expedient movement of designated items needed to support production, test, and launch operations. As a Shipping Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and timely delivery of our products to internal and external customers. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing and processing shipments, coordinating logistics, packaging, exception management, risk mitigation and maintaining and complying with global trade regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process outbound material through ERP system, partnering with appropriate departments to ensure quality and quantity of material is delivered to vendors, staged for shipping and or transferred between SpaceX locations
  • Properly package and manifest parcel, LTL, and large freight as required to ensure product integrity throughout the transportation cycle to intended destination
  • Manifest consignments with information provided by requestor and schedule movements accordingly based on delivery demand (FedEx, UPS, DHL, 3PL vendors, expedite courier services, etc.), ensuring that each package has the correct information and configuration to guarantee intended delivery conditions
  • Coordinate with carriers and freight forwarders to schedule pick-up and delivery of shipments
  • Prepare shipping labels, packing slips, and other necessary documents for each shipment
  • Verify the accuracy of shipping information, including addresses, product quantities, and delivery instructions
  • Inspect and package products for shipment, ensuring proper packaging and labeling
  • Determine the most cost-effective and efficient shipping methods for each order
  • Track and monitor shipments to ensure on-time delivery and resolve any issues or delays and accurately update required tracking systems (spreadsheets, modules, external data sources)
  • Ensure compliance with shipping regulations and requirements:
    • Experience with International Trade, Regulations and Requirements
    • Understanding of ITAR, EAR, BIS etc.
    • Experience with International Document Requirements
      • Commercial Invoice
      • Packing Lists
      • COOs
    • Perform cycle counts to ensure proper inventory is allocated in Shipping-owned Incoming/Outgoing areas
    • Responsible for system integrity for all shipments including coordination with requestor and distribution center(s) to ensure timely product delivery
    • Lead problem solving initiatives for customers and suppliers related to transportation issues (shipping routes, delayed items, customs clearances, and rush orders)
    • Operate forklifts and material handling equipment per safety procedures to load carriers as required in order to load material onto delivery trucks competently and without incident
    • Evaluate hazardous material and determine applicable methodology and packaging/transporting specifications based on SDS specifications
    • Coordinate with internal delivery system drivers/material handlers to pick up and expedite material to the shipping department to avoid cutoffs and evade flight delays
    • Maintain good customer relationships and provide timely updates on shipments as needed to both origin and destination
    • Collaborate with team members to identify process improvements and recommend improvement initiatives to management team

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 3+ years of shipping experience

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience in freight and expedited shipping
  • Experience with international shipping, export (ITAR, EAR, BIS etc.) and customs regulations
  • Proven experience as a Shipping Specialist or in a similar role with high volume manufacturing, aerospace, automotive or commercial aircraft environment
  • Strong knowledge of shipping procedures, regulations, and documentation
  • Familiarity with shipping software and systems, such as UPS WorldShip, MyDHL or FedEx Ship Manager
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with team members
  • Experience with ERP system(s)
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft, Excel and Power Point
  • Certification operating a forklift or other material handling motorized vehicles and equipment
  • Hazmat Certified and working knowledge of transport guidelines as defined by 49CFR / IATA

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift 25-30 lbs., lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
  • Must be available for one of the following shifts:
    • Monday-Friday 3:00PM -1:00AM 
  • Must be open to working all required shift hours, including overtime, and weekends, as needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:        
Level 1: $22.00 - $26.50/hour  
Level 2: $25.00 - $31.00/hour  
Level 3: $29.00 - $37.00/hour   

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
