SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

We are seeking a highly skilled, self-directed Additive Specialist to independently own the setup, operation, post-processing, continuous improvement, and growth of our multi-technology 3D printing lab. This role is critical to accelerating Starlink product development, factory tooling, and automation in a fast-paced environment.

You will take full ownership of printer operations across FDM, SLA, SLS, and emerging technologies. You will drive capacity, quality, efficiency, and process maturity while serving as the primary technical expert and point of contact for the additive shop. The ideal candidate thrives with autonomy, wears multiple hats, partners closely with engineering on Design for Manufacturability (DFM), develops team capabilities through training and documentation, and proactively expands the shop’s capabilities to meet ambitious development timelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continuously improve shop capabilities, capacity, quality, and throughput through process optimization, efficiency projects, and implementation of best practices.
  • Provide proactive DFM feedback and process recommendations to engineering teams; assist with design and build plan optimization for additive manufacturability.
  • Partner with engineering to create, maintain, and continuously improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); ensure all SOPs remain accurate, relevant, and up to date.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training to all additive personnel; effectively communicate process changes and updates across the team.
  • Own the cleanliness, organization, and overall readiness of the 3D printing lab; provide direct input on lab layout, workflow, and process design to maximize efficiency and safety.
  • Maintain a fully stocked workspace and manage consumables inventory in partnership with supply teams.
  • Independently perform verifications, inspections, and documentation with precision and completeness.
  • Operate secondary post-processing equipment (drills, taps, grinders, sanders, etc.) as needed.
  • Flex to support other teams during peak demand and rapidly adapt to evolving processes and engineering requirements.
  • Align daily work with broader business goals and drive initiatives that advance Starlink development and factory infrastructure.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school degree or equivalency certificate
  • 1+ years of experience with hardware assembly, maintenance, and/or operating and maintaining complex machinery

  • Strong computer literacy skills with an understanding of how to maximize current technologies to optimize workflow
  • Experience driving engagement with others, taking initiative, and helping push the team to new levels
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working with or on complex machinery (examples: repairing electromechanical systems, vehicle mechanic, etc)
  • Proven track record of high-quality work, attention to detail, and high level of autonomy

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 07/31/2029

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
