Network Engineer (Starlink Maritime)

NETWORK ENGINEER (STARLINK MARITIME) 

Starlink connects everyone, everywhere. Starlink Maritime Engineering is a small team that makes Starlink work for enterprise customers whose operations run on tankers, cruise ships, offshore platforms, and research vessels far from shore. You are the technical person closest to that business: you turn maritime customer and commercial needs into product, you drive those capabilities through the Starlink engineering organization, and you own whether the result wins accounts and keeps them. To succeed in this role, you must be a technically excellent and highly detail-oriented interdisciplinary problem solver. You must be a self-starter and have a passion for making things work in high-impact situations. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Own technical success for Starlink’s largest and most strategic maritime customers so the product meets the bar that wins and retains enterprise business
• Define and implement technical product requirements and capabilities to address maritime customer needs
• Be the technical authority in pre-sales and customer engagements
• Remove friction from enterprise adoption: processes and tools for installation, setup, and troubleshooting so maritime customers can integrate Starlink into their networks at scale
• Find the next high-leverage product bet for maritime — features, capabilities, and offers that grow the business — and lead the internal push to prioritize it
• Use fleet performance data and operations knowledge to show where Starlink Maritime is winning or failing, then turn that into product and network changes that improve reliability and drive customer success 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS 

• Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline
• 1 year of experience in network/communications integration

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

• Background in network engineering and deploying network technologies
• Understanding of core networking concepts from layer 1 through layer 3 and network protocols such as IPv4, IPv6, DHCP, NAT, NTP, IPsec VPN, etc.
• Knowledge of routing technologies (such as MPLS, SD-WAN, SATCOM, etc) and WAN architectures
• Understanding of backhaul, cloud, and ISP networking technologies such as dedicated interconnects, peering, BGP, etc.
• Excellent data visualization skills, including experience in geospatial data representations
• First-principles problem solving: decompose customer, product, and network issues to constraints and evidence instead of copying existing maritime or enterprise solutions
• Practical experience with marine electronics and networking equipment
• Experience in software engineering or experience directly working with software engineering teams 
• Experience at an early-stage technology startup or program that scaled rapidly
• Experience with build, production, or integration of components into an assembly, structure, vehicle, or site under strict quality and timeline requirements 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Must be available to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to support critical milestones or operations shifts
• Must be willing to travel to other SpaceX offices, vendors, partners, and customers as necessary 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:
Level 1: $125,000.00 - $165,000.00
Level 2: $145,000.00 - $200,000.00

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Employees in Washington State accrue paid sick time in compliance with state and federal law. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
