Starlink Business Operations Director (Japan)

Tokyo, Japan

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

STARLINK BUSINESS OPERATIONS DIRECTOR (JAPAN)

As the Starlink Business Operations Director for Japan, you will own consumer Starlink operations in Japan. You are responsible for coordination, cadence, capacity, and the operational systems required to deliver Starlink satellite broadband to consumer customers.

You are the connective tissue between Japan consumer operations and SpaceX functions in the US and APAC (product, engineering, supply chain, logistics, finance, customer operations, and legal/regulatory support). In a fast-paced environment, you keep consumer service running as a working machine: hardware in the right place, processes that hold at high volume, clean forecasts, and issues closed before they affect order-to-activation or customer support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own Japan consumer operating plans, timelines, and weekly execution, and keep US and Japan stakeholders aligned on operational delivery
  • Build and run the Japan consumer operating cadence (forecasts, demand/supply, inventory, fulfillment, kit availability, order-to-activation, and performance reviews) so consumer service runs without operational drag
  • Own cross-functional coordination for Japan consumer operations: user terminals and accessories, software/feature readiness, warehousing and Japan logistics, customs, consumer retailer and e-commerce operational setup, and Japan consumer onboarding/support handoffs
  • Identify and clear operational blockers (capacity, process, tooling, policy, vendor, and internal SLA gaps) and put durable accommodations in place so consumer operations stay on plan
  • Partner with supply chain and operations to match Japan consumer demand to hardware supply, reduce cost-to-serve, and keep days of supply and last-mile performance inside plan
  • Stand up and improve the systems of record for Japan: reporting, KPI integrity, demand planning inputs, and the feedback loop from onboarding and support back into product and operations
  • Run operational playbooks for Japan consumer fulfillment and service delivery, including staffing/vendor readiness, compliance steps, and launch checklists for hardware, onboarding, and support
  • Analyze operational and customer-experience data to find friction in the Japan journey (order, ship, activate, support) and drive fixes with engineering, operations, and local teams
  • Represent Japan consumer operational requirements to Hawthorne and other SpaceX sites, and represent global process constraints back to the Japan operations team so decisions are executable

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, or other STEM field
  • 10+ years of experience in business operations, program management, supply chain, telecommunications, broadband, or consumer products, including work in or with Japan
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English and Japanese is essential for this role, as the position involves regular communication and coordination with US and Japan based operations teams, Japan consumer retail customers, and stakeholders

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years leading operators, program managers, or analysts, or equivalent experience leading complex work through influence across functions
  • 15+ years of operations or scaled consumer/hardware operations experience in Japan
  • Experience running retail and e-commerce operations: inventory, order flow, SLAs, returns, and launch readiness
  • Experience coordinating hardware supply chain and Japan logistics (import, warehousing, last mile)
  • Experience running operational programs for consumer hardware or subscription services (tooling, fulfillment rules, reporting)
  • Demonstrated success turning operating plans into weekly execution and holding the line on operational commitments
  • Expertise in data analytics, forecasting, and performance management (Excel required; SQL or BI tools strongly preferred)
  • Leadership experience in fast-paced, startup-like cultures with a focus on cross-functional coordination and high standards
  • Familiarity with consumer hardware plus subscription-service operations (activation, billing, support, churn-related process)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel, up 50%+ of time within Japan and across APAC as needed
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Please note that the hiring entity for the role will be under X Corp. Japan
