Senior Product Designer (Contract)

Remote - United States Only

ABOUT OUR COMPANY:

The crushing weight of debt is something that we believe holds people back from reaching their dreams and making a splash in the world. So in 2013, after seeing our friends and family struggle with student loans, we created Splash Financial.

Over the years, our mission has expanded to include helping people with other forms of debt - such as refinancing credit cards, which are at all time highs in the US. And we’ve been able to refinance $6+ Billion in loans through our network of Splash, powered credit union and bank partners who leverage our marketplace and automated loan processing technology. And we’ve raised over $135 million from investors like partners of DST Global, Citi Ventures, TruStage Ventures, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, Detroit Venture Partners, and more.

But at our core, we’re still that little company from Cleveland with a big dream: to make people more powerful than their debt and we’re just getting started..

ABOUT OUR WORKPLACE:

Splash is remote-first, and proud of it — though our collections team works in-person at our Arizona location.

We spend our days simplifying financial products and getting them into the hands of people who need them most. Right now, we’re focused on building financial technologies that fundamentally transform how the industry lends.

Although Splash has been around since 2013, we still operate like a startup — fast-paced, nimble, and full of heart. We’re good people who care deeply about doing meaningful work and we approach challenges with creativity, passion, and urgency.

And to hire the best, we provide the best: great health insurance, competitive salaries, and unique benefits like quarterly meet-ups and access to engagement tools that keep us connected — even from afar.

At Splash, everything we do is guided by our values:

Own It – We take full accountability and follow through on commitments.

Raise the Bar – We move fast, innovate faster, and push through barriers.

Say the Hard Thing – We speak up with honesty, respect, and a desire to solve problems and make things better.

Elevate Each Other – We win as a team by lifting each other up.

These values show up in how we work and how we connect — whether we’re collaborating on big projects or bonding over everyday moments. Yes, we even have Slack channels for #kids-and-pets and #food because we believe being human makes us better teammates.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Splash Financial is seeking a Contract Senior Product Designer (1099) to help us move fast on key product experiences across our personal loan and HELOC products. You'll be a hands-on design contributor — someone who can independently own design workstreams, partner closely with Product and Engineering, and deliver high-quality work with minimal ramp-up time.

You're highly customer-focused, with a passion for elegant, simple solutions. You think iteratively, know how to read data and customer feedback to pressure-test your design assumptions, and you've navigated the constraints of regulated financial products before. You're equally comfortable producing high-fidelity Figma work and thinking strategically about how UX decisions connect to business outcomes.

ENGAGEMENT DETAILS:

  • Engagement type: 1099 independent contractor.
  • Duration: 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on fit and business need.
  • Rate: $80 – $100 per hour, commensurate with experience and location.
  • Location: Remote (US-based).

WHAT YOU’LL DO AT SPLASH:

  • Own design for assigned product workstreams: Take features from problem framing through high-fidelity Figma deliverables; define information architecture, user flows, and interaction patterns; work collaboratively with Product and Engineering across the full product development lifecycle.
  • Conduct and synthesize user research to inform your work:  Run or facilitate usability sessions and customer interviews; synthesize behavioral data, NPS feedback, and qualitative signals to validate design decisions and identify friction points.
  • Build on and contribute to our design system: Work within established component libraries; identify gaps and contribute new patterns that are consistent, scalable, and accessible. Design for trust, clarity, and compliance in a regulated context.
  • Iterate rapidly based on stakeholder and data feedback: Move quickly from concept to prototype; run low-fidelity and high-fidelity reviews with Product, Engineering, and leadership.
  • Design AI-powered and AI-assisted product experiences; Contribute to experiences that incorporate AI features (e.g., personalized recommendations, intelligent form assistance, conversational flows); design clearly around AI outputs, uncertainty, and error states to maintain user trust.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate your own design workflow: Leverage AI-assisted design tools (e.g., Figma Make) to speed up exploration, generate initial concepts, and prototype faster.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPLASH:

  • 6–8+ years of product design experience, with a strong portfolio demonstrating UX and UI work across web and mobile.
  • Expert Figma skills, including component-driven design, prototyping, and working within or contributing to design systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with UX design process: discovery, problem framing, information architecture, user flows, wireframing, and high-fidelity production.
  • Ability to conduct and synthesize lightweight user research (usability testing, interviews, survey analysis) to inform and validate design decisions.
  • Experience designing AI-powered product features or working with ML/AI outputs in a product design context, including designing for edge cases, error states, and user trust.
  • Active use of AI-assisted design tools to accelerate workflow (Figma AI, generative design exploration, or similar); genuine curiosity about how AI will change design practice.

WHAT MAKES YOU STANDOUT:

  • Experience in FinTech, consumer lending, or financial services.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
  • Experience designing across both web and native mobile (iOS/Android).
  • Prior contractor or freelance experience; proven ability to onboard quickly, self-manage, and deliver.

SPLASHERS ENJOY:

  • Fully remote work freedom (for most roles)
  • Competitive salary packages
  • Flexible PTO + 9 company holidays
  • Equity: Share in our start-up success
  • Comprehensive and affordable insurance benefits
  • Paid parental leave for both caregivers
  • Essential modern equipment to get the job done
  • Fully paid Claude subscription to supercharge your work
  • 401(k) for your future savings
  • Quarterly meet-ups: In person & virtual fun
  • Awesome Splash swag to flaunt your team spirit

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
