Location: Hybrid – 3 days/week in office

SEO Scholars is a free, eight-year, academic program that transforms public high school students in New York City, San Francisco, North Carolina, and Miami into college graduates. POSITION OVERVIEW

As a member of the Curriculum & Instruction’s Online Learning team, the Instructional Technologist serves primarily as a technology expert while also playing a key role in supporting course development. As the technology expert, this role manages the systems and account administration of our EdTech platforms and tools while also providing training materials, workshops and tech support on these topics. This role will also be a key contributor to initiatives to scale course development and expand team capacity, such as collaborating with IT to develop system automations and platform integrations.

Additionally, the Instructional Technologist supports the Curriculum & Instruction (C&I) team in designing and setting up courses that create effective and engaging learning environments aligned with desired outcomes. The role collaborates with the instructional designer and other C&I team members across disciplines to adapt and optimize assessments, activities, and assignments for digital platforms, ensuring accessibility, ease of use, engagement, and robust data collection in asynchronous and hybrid learning models.

Technology Integration & Administration (30%)

  • Create and manage accounts of scholars, instructors, and staff across multiple tools and platforms.
  • Configure course and system settings within our EdTech platforms and tools to support data collection, course development, and instructional processes.
  • Set up and maintain LTI and API integrations between Brightspace and external platforms.
  • Assist with vendor communications to design and maintain automations that improve efficiency and data flow.
  • Support and contribute to initiatives that scale course development and expand team capacity, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Collaborate with other Online Learning team members to evaluate digital tools and emerging technologies for instructional alignment, integration capacity, accessibility, and data collection; conduct pilots as needed.

                                                 

Course Creation & Design (30%)

  • Collaborate with the Instructional Designer to create dynamic and engaging HTML pages, HTML templates, and interactive assessment tools (using JSON).
  • Partner with C&I and grade-level teams to build and manage course content and activities in Brightspace and other platforms, ensuring accessibility, engagement, and effective data collection for asynchronous and hybrid models.
  • Develop scalable systems and processes for Brightspace course design and related tools in collaboration with C&I, operations, and IT teams, including automation, platform integration, gamification, and differentiated learning pathways.
  • Apply instructional technologies, learning theories, and universal design principles when supporting online and hybrid course development.
  • Manage content items within the Brightspace Learning Object Repository and revise/edit these items as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Research and Evaluation team to design data collection methods and analyze data to improve instructional materials and learning experiences.

Technology Support (15%)

  • Answer, resolve, and/or escalate support requests from staff, instructors, and scholars related to educational technologies or online curriculum.
  • Conduct observations of current procedures in order to recommend practical and efficient methods to optimize effective technology usage.
  • Provide training to staff and instructors through workshops, webinars, video tutorials, etc., on topics related to online teaching, the BrightspaceLMS, course design, and integration of instructional technology.
  • Create student training materials to prepare them for the technology and platforms used within SEO courses.

Quality & Accessibility Assurance (15%)

  • Collaborate with other Online Learning team members to conduct accessibility audit and quality assurance to ensure compliance with national, state, district, and team standards for quality, evaluation, alignment, ADA and legal propriety.
  • Ensure tools and platforms are accessible.
  • Ensure course settings are correct and stable for lesson delivery.
  • Contribute to the evaluation framework by which the SEO online courses will be evaluated, and provide continuous support on quality improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and recommend the use of instructional strategies, technologies, and applications to improve the quality of online courses.

Project Assistance (10%)  

  • Utilize project management software to ensure efficient workflows and progress reports.
  • Regularly report on project status within the project management framework established by the unit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in educational technology administration, course design support, and technical training.
  • Experience designing engaging and accessible content and user experiences for online or hybrid learning environments preferred.
  • Quality Matters (QM) and/or Online Learning Consortium (OLC) certification in online course design and/or delivery preferred.

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS

  • Passionate about closing the opportunity gap on the high school and college level for first- generation and low-income students
  • Strong technical skills and expertise in managing complex Learning Management Systems (preferably Brightspace), educational technology, and digital content delivery methods.
  • Proficient in HTML5, CSS, and/or JSON for creating and customizing course pages.
  • Familiarity with automation tools, platform integrations, and API-based workflows.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously using project management tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply data insights to improve instructional materials, tech utilization, and processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Exceptional skill in coaching individuals and teams on complex tools and platform operation with clarity and precision.
  • Highly adaptable and solutions-oriented with an ability to solve complex problems when faced with tight deadlines and resource limitations.
  • Knowledge of User Experience (UX) and Universal Design principles relevant to online course design.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA compliance).
  • Understanding of learning theories, cognition, and online/hybrid instructional strategies.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Zoom, and Monday.
  • Familiarity with building content in Miro or Desmos.
