Ice Technician - The Rink at Rockefeller Center
2020-21 Season (November - Early Spring)
Overview:
Swiss Post is seeking warm, out-going, team-oriented individuals to contribute to the hospitality culture of The Rink at Rockefeller Center. As a valuable member of the team, you are the face of the famous skating rink and will be responsible for creating uniquely unforgettable experiences for our guests. Applicants should demonstrate an ability to quickly learn and communicate information pertaining to The Rink as well as other aspects of Rockefeller Center.
Schedules are flexible, and include daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Availability on weekends and holidays is preferred. Fluent English is required and the ability to speak multiple languages is a plus. Applicants must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist, and lift throughout an entire shift. Due to the nature of this role and its responsibilities, the employee must report to the on-site work location during scheduled work hours. Position Summary:
Ice Technicians are responsible for maintaining the best possible ice surface. This involves routine ice maintenance, primarily by operating an Olympia Mini E Ice Resurfacer, snowblower, edger and other devices. Ice Techs sharpen skates, assist with mechanical issues, and are also tasked with general Rink related responsibilities such as cleaning/handling rental skates, directing large groups of people and engaging with guests. The successful candidate should bring a hospitality mindset, positive attitude, and strong attention to detail to their role.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the best possible ice surface
- Operate ice resurfacer, edger, snow blower and additional appliances
- Quickly respond to and mitigate escalating mechanical and refrigeration issues
- Sharpen both customer and rental skates
- Handle general rental skate duties (skate exchange, guest education, cleaning/sanitizing)
- Anticipate guest needs and build rapport with visitors
- Do the very best to answer or find the answer to all questions guests may have pertaining to The Rink, Rockefeller Center or any item that falls under the scope of offering exceptional hospitality
- General maintenance during snow events
Other Responsibilities
- Inform and enforce all health & safety guidelines
- Check tickets prior to entry and communicate appropriate information
- Scan guest’s ticket with QR Code scanner, issue appropriate credentials required for rink entry and communicate any additional information required for skating session
- Instruct guests to follow proper locker usage and etiquette
Requirements
- Minimum of two years’ experience with operating an ice resurfacing machine and edger
- Willing and able to work scheduled late/overnight shifts as needed
- Ability to understand and communicate in English, verbally and in writing
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Role may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, stooping, pushing, pulling and carrying.
- A significant portion of the day requires standing and walking
- A significant portion of the shift will take place outside (Insulated winter jacket & vest provided)
- Ideally open availability including weekends, early mornings, late nights, and holidays
- Must be able to lift 15 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis
- Must be able to follow uniform and other grooming guidelines
- Must be able to follow all other policies implemented by Swiss Post/Tishman Speyer
Pay Range
$23 - $26 USD
