AM: SWE Lead - Alternative Lending
Stone Ridge is a $39B diversified financial services firm that creates innovative capital markets solutions through a group of industry-leading operating companies. Founded in 2012 and based in New York, we build businesses and investment strategies in markets where deep expertise, proprietary data, and disciplined execution can create lasting advantages.
We build products we want for ourselves and invest in all our strategies alongside our partners. Everything we do—from how we approach problems to how we work with one another—is grounded in our core values: Focus. Be Humble. Be Kind.
Why Stone Ridge?
Stone Ridge is intentionally flat, meritocratic, and demanding. Ideas matter more than titles, and people are trusted with meaningful responsibility. The bargain is simple: you get to work here, and in return, you commit to keep learning, keep improving, and striving to be the best in the industry at what you do.
Stone Ridge Asset Management develops differentiated alternative investment strategies designed to provide valuable sources of return and diversification beyond traditional stocks and bonds.
The Opportunity
Stone Ridge is seeking a Software Engineering Lead for its Alternative Lending franchise to lead the design and implementation of the models, tools, and infrastructure that power the firm’s Alternative Lending business. The person will be primarily responsible for managing a small team of Software Engineers building tools that support trading, portfolio management, and underwriting oversight, and for automating the data pipelines, reporting, and daily pricing processes that strike NAV. The role sits within Alternative Lending Technology, part of Stone Ridge’s broader technology team, reports to the Head of Alternative Assets Engineering, and works closely with portfolio managers on the Alternative Lending desk, fixed-income operations analysts, credit research, and the structured investments team.
This is a distinctive opportunity to develop deep expertise in consumer loans, HELOC loans, and structured investments while sitting at the intersection of engineering and investment operations, with direct visibility into processes that are critical to the fund’s NAV. The role is well suited to someone who enjoys working independently across ambiguous, cross-functional problems and wants to embed emerging AI technologies into everyday engineering work.
What You’ll Do
- Lead a growing team of two Software Engineers and work directly on the product roadmap for the Alternative Lending business.
- Build models and tools that support trading, portfolio management, research, and underwriting oversight for consumer loans, HELOC loans, and structured investments
- Develop deep domain expertise in consumer loans, HELOC loans, and structured investments to inform product and tooling decisions
- Partner with the Operations Tech team to generate monthly reporting and automate data pipelines
- Support daily pricing processes, including delivering the prices used to strike NAV
- Work with Code Services to build and deploy these products into production
- Generate executive reporting in partnership with the Analytics team
- Collaborate directly with portfolio managers, fixed-income operations analysts, and credit research to design and build new products and tools
What You Bring
Required
- 7+ years of hands-on experience as a software engineer, with a proven track record delivering end-to-end solutions through scalable, reusable frameworks
- Proficiency in at least one modern language such as Python, Java, or C#
- Strong technical literacy in data infrastructure and coding best practices
- Direct experience working with AI technologies such as AI code assist tools, LLMs, or agents
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong sense of ownership across ambiguous, cross-functional problems
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, finance, or a related field
Preferred
- Experience in financial services or alternative investments
What Success Looks Like
- Independently owns the daily pricing process, including delivering prices used to strike NAV, with minimal oversight
- Has earned the trust of portfolio managers on the Alternative Lending desk, fixed-income operations analysts, and credit research to build tools that directly inform trading and underwriting decisions
- Has automated manual reporting and data pipeline work, making monthly and executive reporting faster and more reliable
- Has built working fluency in consumer loans, HELOC loans, and structured investments, and applies that domain knowledge to shape tooling decisions
- Has embedded AI technologies (code assist, LLMs, agents) into the team’s engineering workflow in ways that measurably speed up delivery
