Stone Ridge is seeking a Tax Associate to help manage tax compliance and reporting across the firm's funds and management company entities. The person will be primarily responsible for supporting the preparation and review of partnership and corporate tax returns, meeting multi-state filing and withholding obligations, and maintaining the data and documentation behind the firm's international tax filings. The role sits within the tax team and works closely with fund accounting, operations, and external advisors including EY and Deloitte.
This is a distinctive opportunity to see the full tax picture of a diversified investment firm, spanning reinsurance, alternative lending, energy, single-family rentals, and digital assets. This is an opportunity to learn and assist in answering technical questions regarding partnership allocations, state conformity, and international reporting. The role is well suited to someone who is detail-oriented, enjoys technical research, and focused on efficient and reliable compliance reporting.

- Support the review of partnership and corporate tax returns, including Forms 1065 and 1120 and the related K-1s and K-3s, across fund and management company entities
- Assist with multi-state filing obligations and state conformity analysis, including estimated nonresident and composite withholding payments
- Track, review, and organize the data supporting international tax filings, including PFIC/QEF and CFC reporting
- Coordinate with external accounting firms and administrators on return preparation and technical questions
- Maintain documentation supporting the firm's tax positions and compliance workpapers
- Research technical tax questions and contribute to special projects, including tax technology and automation initiatives
What You Bring

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Three or more years of relevant tax experience, ideally at a Big 4 accounting firm serving investment or asset management clients
- Working knowledge of partnership and corporate tax compliance, including Forms 1065 and 1120 and the related K-1s and K-3s
- Exposure to PFIC and CFC concepts or international filings such as Forms 8621 and 5471
- Strong Excel skills and comfort using AI tools in day-to-day work
- Organization and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines
Preferred
- Experience with the taxation of digital assets
- Tax provision experience or knowledge of individual taxation
- Familiarity with foreign withholding and compliance matters, including ECI and FDAP withholding as well as FATCA and CRS compliance
What Success Looks Like
- Owns the compliance calendar for an assigned set of entities, delivering data and workpapers to advisors on schedule without prompting
- Reviews advisor-prepared returns and workpapers independently, surfacing the questions that matter before filings are finalized
- Becomes the reliable internal reference for state filing and withholding requirements across the fund complex
- Leaves the tax function's documentation more organized and easier to reuse each filing season than the year before
