As a Safety Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring a safe work environment at SRTX operations. Your responsibilities will include developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health and safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with CNESST regulations and industry standards.
 
The role:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with CNESST regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of the workplace to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance and support to management and employees on health and safety issues, including training, hazard communication, and emergency response procedures.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures.
  • Maintain records of health and safety incidents, inspections, and compliance activities. Prepare incident reports and share lesson learned to avoid repeat incidents.
  • Develop and conduct safety training programs for all employees, including new hire orientation, refresher courses, and specialized training.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and emergency drills. Coordinate with local emergency services and ensure readiness for potential emergencies.
  • Coordinate with CNESST, as necessary, to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Conduct job hazard analysis (JHAs) and ergonomic assessments to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Ensure that all safety equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, and safety showers, are maintained and in good working order. Monitor and maintain safety systems, such as fire & gas detection and ventilation systems.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Stay informed about emerging safety trends, regulations, and best practices and incorporate relevant updates into existing programs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including People Team, Operations, and Facilities, to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in safety management (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or similar) is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record in safety management within manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Experience in safety protocols and procedures implementation, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Thorough understanding of Quebec's health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify hazards and assess risks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience with incident investigation techniques, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the organization.
