Position Overview:
You’ll work as SME for engineering to lead product engineering technical works in Asia region to interface with product management, project management, industrial design, quality assurance, prototyping, testing, design engineering and merchandise sourcing in delivering a constant flow of innovative products. You’ll lead new product development & manufacturing process development for assembly & components (Stainless Steel / Plastic / Silicone). You will bridge the cooperation between US headquarter and APAC contract manufacturing for any engineering related works throughout the whole lifecycle of NPD. You will also lead execution of QBR, Vendor capabilities evaluation and other supplier management works initiated by APAC supplier chain team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop engineering technical capabilities by leading, coaching, and mentoring the team to accomplish the responsibilities and grow the capability continuously.
- Cooperate with Product Creation team to implement product design solutions in manufacturing for both early-stage innovation and NPD projects with restricted timeline. Review, verify, release 3D/2D/CTQ and any related technical documentations from Production Creation team to manufacturing. Translate and transfer technical feedback from manufacturing to Production Creation team through deep understanding of SS/Plastic/Silicone production process. Review and approve documentations for risk assessment, off tooling report, inspection report, process report, DFMEA/PFMEA report, MSA report and CIP report. Support Production Creation team to update Drawings, BOM, ECO in PDM/PLM system.
- Cooperate with Product Creation team to meet project timelines, project quality and innovation efforts, to be lead for manufacturing process in design for manufacture (DFM)
- Lead trouble shooting in early-stage tooling, pre-production and mass production for any technical related issues. Propose effective solutions to meet both design and manufacturing needs. Present in project team meeting to influence critical decision making under pressure of lead time.
- Proactively communicate project status and resource capacity with PJM and the project team.
- Partner with internal team and factories to ensure products are appropriately documented through a technical specification package, work Instructions are appropriately documented for manufacturing processes, and receive necessary change management for both.
- Lead engineering team to build factory engineering capability assessment system and drive for continuous improvement to have the product creation process more smoothly and shorten the lead-time.
- Works closely with QA/MS to solve technical issues related to product function and performance.
- Drives and organize periodic engineering seminar within PE team and with cross functional teams by case study, lesson learning and experience/knowledge sharing.
- Deliver tasks assigned on time and efficiently in a positive and collaborative manner.
- Identify, investigate, and adapt tools and techniques for product and process improvement, demonstrate excellent time-management, problem prevention and problem-solving skills.
Skills and Experience:
- Strong process-wise thinking and logical analytical capability.
- Outstanding hands-on experience and technical management skills for NPD process.
- Strong influence skills to guide contract manufacturers to accomplish tasks.
- Good knowledge in complex assembly machines (good automation knowledge & metal, plastic industry equipment) and rich tooling experience
- Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and associated product design requirements for processes including, but not limited to, stainless steel hydroforming, deep drawing, plastic injection molding, compression molding, and plastic blow molding.
- Good knowledge of Six sigma methodology and tools (DFSS, DMAIC, DOE, Value Stream Mapping, Risk Assessment).
- Qualification process knowledge in best practices such as PPAP, validation/verification through DFMEA/Test Plan/PFMEA
- Capability to partner with functional teams to assemble a robust technical specification package to capture product design intent, requirements, and expectations.
- Rich experience in project/team management and very familiar with project process , Skilled at prioritizing tasks and managing timelines.
- Expert with Solidworks , AutoCAD and other professional software for product design.
- Expert with MoldFlow, Ansys and other professional CAE software will be plus.
- Expert with any Tooling design, CAM and CNC programing software will be plus.
- Expert with manufacturing line automation will be plus.
- Competence with PLM is desired.
- Strong verbal, written and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally in English and Mandarin, rich experience on working and communicating directly with US based product creation teams.
- Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
- Habit of taking the initiative and the ability to work independently and as part of a team, ability to work with global team to complete task well
- Respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Education and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or above, major in mechanical engineering or tooling design and manufacturing related.
- 10+ years of experience as a practicing Engineer of hard good
- Solid experience of technical writing, documentation and presentation
- Confidence working with, and presenting to internal and external clients
- Direct experience communicating directly with Production Engineers & factories
- Travel 50%
