About the position

We are seeking a Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer that specializes in the management, prevention, and recovery of injured athletes. Athletic trainers collaborate with doctors to provide emergency and follow-up care and develop injury prevention and treatment programs for injured athletes. Athletic trainers also provide a vital communication link between the injured athlete, the physician, the coach, the school nurse, and the athlete's family to determine when it's right to return to practice and competition.

The schedule includes evenings and some weekends. This position will help with coverage of 19 varsity sports and 41 overall teams between middle school, junior varsity, and varsity teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prevention, recognition, management, evaluation, and treatment of athletic injuries
  • Responsible for ensuring that all games and practices are covered
  • Treatment before/during practice/competitions
  • Work with Director of Athletic Development to help oversee and maintain weight room and cardio room policies/coverage Administering and monitoring of Return to learn
  • Administration of SWAY concussion testing
  • Rehab and treatment programs using modalities appropriate for injury
  • Liaison between parents, students, administration, and coaches for all athletic purposes
  • Participate in seasonal coaches meetings in coordination with the Athletic Director and staff
  • Maintain accurate records for all injuries and treatments through Magnus software system
  • Review and approve submissions of VIAAA State required forms
  • Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments for sports injuries, and injuries treated by a physician
  • Assist in the management of all necessary supplies and equipment related to Athletic Training
  • Maintain an orderly and clean environment in the Athletic Training Rooms that is consistent with established protocols and expectations of the school
  • Compile and keep policies and protocols up-to-date related to athletics: emergency action plan, cardiac emergency plan, weather guidelines, etc
  • Attend all mandatory meetings as requested by the school administrators and attend optional meetings as needed for the purposes of athletics
  • Commit to being an active member of the STAB Athletic Staff by attending meetings, leading projects, and serving as a representative for the athletic department
  • Additional duties as assigned by Director of Athletics and Associate Director of Athletics

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Licensed by the State of VA
  • BOC certified CPR/AED first aid certifications for the professional rescuer
  • Maintain CPR instructor certification
  • Maintain # of CEU's per period by attending continuing education seminars
  • Maintain competency with SWAY concussion testing
  • Knowledge and proficiency working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Knowledge and proficiency working in Google Suite and Magnus software system
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and maintaining professionalism at all times
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Bachelor's degree required from a NATA Accredited University
  • Master's degree preferred
