About the Position
The Welder position works out of Stansell Electric’s Nashville shop, assisting in all aspects of fleet maintenance and repair. The Welder must show understanding and experience in fleet/mechanical welding, and demonstrate mechanical aptitude, computer skills, mathematical skills, and literacy skills commensurate to the satisfactory completion of position’s primary duties and responsibilities. Advancement opportunities are available by advancing to more senior positions or through transfer to skilled trades.
How You’ll Make a Difference
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
- Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
- Performs all tasks in a timely and safe manner.
- Comprehend and abide by Stansell Electric customer policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Reports all violations to immediate supervisor.
- Understand/Perform other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervision.
- Possess good organization skills, be detail oriented and work well with others.
- Available to work overtime and after hours, if needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Current valid drivers license (with a clean record)
- Dependable transportation

- Attention to detail
- Precious welder experience (i.e. experience using a variety of welding equipment and tools including but not limited to electrical and manual tools)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
- Ability to lift 51+ pounds unassisted, 20 or more times a day
- Ability to safely and correctly operate company vehicles, both automatic and manual
- Possession of both good hearing and vision, normal or corrected
- Full mobility and control over bodily movement required for this position
Education
- High School diploma or GED
- Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is required
- Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) is a plus
Experience
- 0-2 years welding experience
