Job Summary:
The Procurement Specialist will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective acquisition of materials and supplies for Transportation & Infrastructure projects. This position requires managing vendor relationships, overseeing procurement workflows, ensuring contract compliance, and coordinating with internal teams to support project success. A proactive and strategic approach to procurement will be essential in maintaining a seamless material flow throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Vendor Management:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, ensuring product quality, reliability, and awareness of lead times while ensuring compliance with all applicable specifications.
- Procure materials based on project requirements, deadlines, and cost-saving opportunities through economies of scale.
- Monitor vendor performance and promptly address supply chain issues.
Material Procurement:
- Manage large-scale material purchases, consolidating orders where feasible to optimize pricing and availability.
- Proactively anticipate lead times and mitigate delays by securing materials early in the project timeline.
- Request and review submittal documents from vendors, such as product cut sheets and compliance letters, ensuring all materials meet project specifications.
- Oversee the submittal process, track material orders, and provide Project Managers with estimated ship dates and shipping updates.
Contract Compliance:
- Ensure all purchases align with project contracts, technical specifications, and DOT/municipality standards.
- Verify compliance with customer requirements and necessary documentation, including special provisions.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with project teams to develop strategic procurement plans, that outlines how Transportation will acquire goods and services in a way that aligns with its overall business goals and delivers value over time.
- Serve as the primary liaison between estimators, project managers, accounting, and warehouse teams.
- Provide regular updates on material statuses, supply chain challenges, and alternative sourcing solutions to maintain project timelines.
Performance Monitoring:
- Track procurement performance metrics, monitor supplier reliability, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and cost savings.
Qualifications:
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Smartsheets, Vista, Kojo, and Bluebeam/Acrobat (preferred).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to problem-solve, resolve conflicts, and handle procurement challenges with professionalism.
- Service-oriented with exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments, including exposure to various weather conditions at job sites.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
- 5+ years of procurement experience (candidates with less experience may be considered if they demonstrate intelligence, adaptability, a strong work ethic, and relevant industry experience).
- Experience in electrical construction procurement, including material sourcing, tracking, delivery coordination, and startup/commissioning is a plus.
