About the Position
The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all building systems. This role specializes in electrical maintenance and repair, while also performing a wide range of general handyman and facility upkeep tasks. The ideal candidate is a problem solver with strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
How You’ll Make a Difference
- Electrical Maintenance & Repair — Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, circuits, lighting, outlets, switches, breakers, and related components in compliance with local codes.
- Preventive Maintenance — Conduct routine inspections of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, safety equipment) and perform scheduled maintenance to prevent breakdowns.
- General Handyman Work — Complete repairs involving carpentry, drywall, painting, minor plumbing, door hardware, flooring, and fixtures.
- Equipment & System Monitoring — Monitor building automation systems, electrical panels, and mechanical equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Emergency Response — Respond promptly to maintenance requests, service calls, and building emergencies, including power issues, leaks, and safety hazards.
- Safety & Compliance — Follow OSHA and building safety standards; maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation.
- Vendor Coordination — Assist with scheduling and overseeing contractors when specialized work is required.
- Facility Upkeep — Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas, tools, and storage spaces.
- Proven experience as an electrician, electrical technician, or building maintenance professional.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, troubleshooting, and safety codes.
- Broad handyman skill set including carpentry, painting, plumbing, and general repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong problem solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and perform tasks in various environments.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school training preferred.
- Full-time position with occasional after-hours or weekend work for emergencies or scheduled maintenance.
- Indoor and outdoor work in varying conditions.
- Interaction with tenants, staff, and contractors.
- Occasionally work from elevated platforms/areas (scissor lift, ladders, roof, etc.)
Experience
- Experience in commercial, residential, or multi-unit building maintenance.
- Familiarity with HVAC systems and basic troubleshooting.
