The Role

StarRez, Inc. is seeking a Senior Contracts Counsel to lead our growing legal contracts function, reporting directly to the Vice President of Legal. This strategic legal leader will manage all aspects of our contracting lifecycle while mentoring a high-performing team of legal professionals, including interns and contract specialists. You will play a key role in shaping the legal backbone of our commercial operations—advising on technology and product matters (including AI), structuring partnerships, and supporting employment-related legal issues.

This is a unique opportunity to help build a scalable contracts function for a global SaaS company while being deeply embedded in business decision-making.

 

 

Role Specifics  

Work Location: Remote (US)
Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Vice President, Legal. 
Travel: 5% (The percentage of travel is an estimation, and it could vary up or down based on business needs throughout the year.)

What You Will Own

  • Lead and mentor a growing contracts team including legal interns and contract specialists, fostering career development and operational excellence.
  • Draft, negotiate, and manage contracts with customers, suppliers, resellers, and strategic partners, including:
    • Master Service Agreements (MSAs), Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), partnership and reseller agreements, NDAs, and Statements of Work (SOWs)
    • Employment-related agreements (offer letters, contractor agreements, and employment policy compliance)
  • Advise on product and technology legal matters, including AI use cases and IP rights.
  • Develop and maintain a contracts playbook with standardized templates, negotiation guidance, and training modules.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Customer Success, Security, Finance, People and Culture, and Product and Technology to ensure contracts align with business priorities and legal risk management.
  • Support and manage contract compliance workflows including Salesforce records, deal desk operations, and future CLM system implementation.
  • Assist with legal department operations, including governance filings, training programs, and strategic initiatives led by the VP of Legal.
  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor across the business, helping elevate StarRez’s legal maturity while maintaining its agile, high-performance culture.
  • Utilize AI to increase efficiency within the legal team’s operations

 

Required Qualifications

  • J.D. from a U.S. ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Colorado or eligible for Colorado licensure.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of legal experience with at least 3+ years focused on SaaS/technology contracts in a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Demonstrated experience advising on contracting, employment, and technology product risk.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing or mentoring junior legal professionals or legal operations team members.
  • Strong experience with SaaS and software licensing, including privacy and security provisions.
  • Exposure to AI-related legal frameworks and product legal reviews.
  • Comfort with employment law issues related to hiring, international employment models, and hybrid/remote work environments.
  • Experience working with higher education institutions, public entities, and international business units (EMEA/APAC).
  • Familiarity with CLM tools and Salesforce contract workflows.
  • Clear, concise communicator with strong business acumen and negotiation skills.

US - Salary Range

$135,000 - $155,000 USD
