Job Title: Facilities Custodian
Location: Stone Barns Center For Food And Agriculture in Pocantico Hills, New York
Supervisor: Facilities Director
Employment Classification: Part time, hourly/non-exempt
Hourly Rate: $22-$25
Frequency of Pay: Bi-weekly
Schedule: 2-3 days. Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday, which may occasionally include some evenings.
The Facilities Custodian plays an essential role in the daily upkeep and maintenance of a first-in-class facility consisting of buildings and grounds for a suite of historic barns, a working farm and our two Michelin starred partner restaurant, Blue Hill at Stone Barns. The ideal candidate has experience with deep cleaning and organization throughout, stocking supplies, coupled with a customer minded, strong service ethic. Additionally, you can support an active team and facility that is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday. The Facilities Custodian must be observant and report any damage, unsafe conditions, or related problems to the Facilities Director.
Responsibilities:
- Daily facility-wide deep cleaning, including bathrooms, offices, meeting and event and outdoor spaces
- Removal and correct disposal of garbage/recyclables
- Quick response to spills, bathroom malfunctions, potential hazards, etc.
- Participate in snow and ice removal
- Stocking supplies, distributing packages/mail
- Report on inventory of custodial supplies
- Working collaboratively with our restaurant partner's events staff to prepare for member/guest use
- Operate pressure washers and other small equipment
- Work collaboratively with all team members to accomplish daily assignments and tasks in a timely manner
- Perform seasonal or specialty tasks as needed
Preferred Skills/Knowledge:
- Experience with facility cleaning
- Dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and a good communicator with staff and public alike
- Able to work independently or in a team, with attention to detail; able to work outside in all weather situations
- Hospitality and/or events experience a plus
- Fluency in or understanding of Spanish is preferred.
This is a highly physical role. While performing these job duties, the individual is regularly required to see and reach. The individual is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand for long periods of time (e.g., up to 8 hours or longer). The individual is required to use dominant hand coordination for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation. The individual is also required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level. The individual may be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, moving machinery, food allergens, and cleaning agents. The individual may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs, which may include overtime, weekends, and holidays. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
