Job Title: Facilities Carpenter
Location: Stone Barns Center For Food & Agriculture
Supervisor: Facilities Director
Employment Classification: Salaried/Non-exempt
Salary Range: $52,000-$57,000 DOE
Frequency of Pay: Bi-weekly
Schedule: Monday-Friday, and may include an occasional weekend day. 

The Facilities Carpenter will have a measurable impact in the daily upkeep and maintenance of a first-in-class facility consisting of buildings and grounds for a suite of historic barns, a working farm and a partner restaurant. The ideal candidate will have experience with general carpentry work and tools. The ideal candidate will carry out assignments necessary to construct and maintain structural woodworking machinery and equipment, along with more general maintenance work that will come up over the course of the season. Additionally, you have a strong service ethic and an interest in supporting an active team and facility that is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday. 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain property fencing
  • Monitor and maintain all door, gate, and window hardware
  • Small plumbing repairs, e.g. faucet stems, toilet hardware, and clear drains
  • Small electrical repairs, e.g. replace GFI’s, breakers, ballasts, etc
  • Help maintain clear and safe roadways (snow plowing, removal of debris, etc.)
  • Monitor and stock inventory and supplies
  • Manage and keep supply yard clean and supplied
  • Participate in on-site recycling programs
  • Observe and report any damages, unsafe conditions or facilities related problems to the Facilities Director

Preferred Skills/Knowledge:

  • Experience with plumbing, electrical, groundskeeping
  • Dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and a good communicator with staff and public alike
  • Operational and safety knowledge of professional equipment including tractor loader, skid steer, dump truck, snowplow, power washers, back blower, string trimmer
  • High degree of professional maturity, responsibility and reliability
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, thoroughly and with attention to detail and follow through
  • Ability to take initiative, proactively point out problems and areas for improvement, assess priorities, and manage a variety of tasks efficiently and effectively
  • Competent and comfortable with technology
  • Fluency in or understanding of Spanish is preferred.

This is a highly physical role. While performing these job duties, the individual is regularly required to see and reach. The individual is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand for long periods of time (e.g., up to 8 hours or longer). The individual is required to use dominant hand coordination for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation. The individual is also required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level. The individual may be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, moving machinery, food allergens, and cleaning agents. The individual may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs, which may include overtime, weekends, and holidays. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
