As part of this team, the SDET plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our data pipelines and systems by designing and implementing comprehensive testing strategies and tools.

About the Role

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) for the Data Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have 4–7 years of experience in test automation for data systems, with a strong focus on quality assurance, scalability, and performance testing for data platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement test strategies for validating large-scale data pipelines, workflows, and ETL processes.
• Develop and maintain test automation frameworks and scripts tailored for data engineering systems using Python or similar languages.
• Collaborate with data engineers to ensure comprehensive test coverage for Apache Airflow workflows, AWS-based data solutions, and other data processes.
• Validate data integrity, accuracy, and performance in both batch and real-time processing pipelines.
• Implement and maintain data quality checks and monitoring frameworks to ensure the consistency and reliability of data outputs.
• Perform load testing, stress testing, and performance benchmarking for data systems.
• Identify, document, and track issues while working closely with the engineering team to ensure timely resolution.
• Stay updated on the latest testing methodologies and tools to continuously enhance the quality assurance process.

Qualifications

• Experience: 4–7 years in quality assurance or test automation, with a focus on data engineering or big data platforms.
• Technical Proficiency:
• Experience testing data pipelines and workflows on platforms such as Apache Airflow or similar tools.
• Proficiency in Python, with the ability to write and maintain test automation scripts.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, Glue, Lambda, and Redshift.
• Data Validation Skills: Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and data quality assurance best practices.
• Testing Tools: Experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., PyTest, Robot Framework) and performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter).
• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail for troubleshooting issues and validating data outputs.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with tools like Apache Iceberg or Looker for data reporting and analysis.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into deployment workflows.
• Passion for driving innovation in testing methodologies for data systems.
