
Lab Manager
Overview:
This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of lab management, including compliance, safety, personnel supervision, and process optimization. The Lab Manager will ensure the efficient execution of cannabis extraction methods—specifically hydrocarbon extraction and distillation—while also supporting the packaging of extracts and vape cartridges. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in laboratory best practices, a deep understanding of cannabis processing, and a commitment to maintaining regulatory compliance and product quality across all lab functions.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the hydrocarbon extraction and distillation processes.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to cannabis extraction and production.
- Supervise and train laboratory staff, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and maintenance. Communicate and log regular maintenance and repair tickets as needed.
- Conduct quality control tests on cannabis extracts and products to ensure consistency and potency.
- Manage inventory of raw materials, supplies, and finished products.
- Oversee the packaging of cannabis extracts and vape cartridges, ensuring accurate labeling and compliance with packaging regulations.
- Maintain detailed records of all laboratory activities, including extraction processes, test results, and inventory management.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth and efficient production processes.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in cannabis extraction techniques.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a laboratory management role, preferably in the cannabis industry.
- Minimum of 2 years supervising experience
- In-depth knowledge of hydrocarbon extraction and distillation processes.
- Strong understanding of state and federal regulations related to cannabis production.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Metrc.
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality products in a safe, compliant workspace.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering, business administration, chemistry, or a related field.
- Experience with other cannabis extraction techniques, such as solventless extraction.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles.
Work Environment:
- Must wear proper PPE as required.
- Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment, which may involve exposure to various temperatures, gases, loud noises, and odors associated with cannabis production.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand or sit for long shifts.
- Must be able to push, pull, or lift at least 50 pounds.
Maryland Pay Range
$75,000 - $85,000 USD
