
Regional Pharmacist
Overview
The Regional Pharmacist serves as both the Pharmacist of Record and Area Operations Leader for three licensed medical marijuana retail locations in Louisiana. This role ensures full compliance with the Louisiana Department of Health’s Emergency Cannabis Regulations (effective March 28, 2025), providing oversight of patient care, regulatory adherence, operational leadership, and community engagement. The Pharmacist will support market growth while maintaining availability on-call for 40 hours per week to ensure patient safety, legal compliance, and operational success.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance & Clinical Oversight
- Serve as Pharmacist of Record for three medical marijuana retail locations as required by R.S. 40:1046(F).
- Ensure compliance with LAC 51:XXIX:2103 regarding approved marijuana product forms and patient eligibility.
- Review and verify clinician recommendations prior to fulfillment to ensure accuracy and legal validity under LAC 51:XXIX:2507.
- Oversee patient consultations regarding dosage, contraindications, and therapeutic effects in alignment with R.S. 40:1046 and Board of Pharmacy requirements.
- Ensure proper labeling of all products per LAC 51:XXIX:2507(H), including patient, clinician, product identity, dosage, and expiration.
- Maintain seed-to-sale inventory controls in compliance with LAC 51:XXIX:2505 and the Louisiana Medical Marijuana Tracking System (LMMTS), including reconciliation and record retention.
- Oversee proper packaging, delivery, and disposal of products per LAC 51:XXIX:2507 and 2509, ensuring compliance with patient privacy and security protocols.
- Maintain readiness for state inspections and lead resolution of any identified non-compliance per LAC 51:XXIX:2501.
Operational & Area Leadership
- Act as Area Manager for assigned stores, ensuring operational excellence, staffing execution, and team development.
- Implement structured 1:1 check-ins with store leadership to provide operational, compliance, and sales coaching.
- Oversee execution of store security requirements including video/audio surveillance, secure storage, and restricted access controls in compliance with LAC 51:XXIX:2503.
- Support training for store teams on regulatory changes, POS systems, inventory reconciliation, and compliance best practices.
- Drive execution of marketing initiatives and patient engagement campaigns to grow patient base and sales.
Patient Engagement & Retention
- Measures how many patients return for repeat visits and complete purchases after receiving recommendations.
Transaction Performance
- Tracks average spend per visit (AOT) and the number of products sold per transaction (UPT) to ensure complete patient care.
Compliance & Inventory Accuracy
- Monitors accurate patient record entry, POS/LATA data integrity, and Metrc inventory reconciliation to meet state requirements.
Operational Execution
- Tracks delivery fulfillment accuracy, waste disposal compliance, and inspection readiness to maintain operational and regulatory standards.
Community & Professional Representation
- Serve as a licensed healthcare professional representing the organization at medical marijuana education events and patient outreach programs.
- Build partnerships with healthcare providers, advocacy groups, and clinicians to expand access to safe, legal medical marijuana.
- Maintain public-facing visibility to promote safe patient use in accordance with LDH and Board of Pharmacy standards.
On-Call & Emergency Support
- Remain on-call 40 hours per week to provide immediate clinical, compliance, or patient care support across assigned locations.
- Respond to urgent escalations involving patient safety, legal compliance, or operational risks.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Coach and mentor Store Managers and Retail Staff, promoting regulatory compliance and patient-centered care.
- Support leadership development, succession planning, and team accountability across all assigned locations.
- Collaborate with corporate stakeholders to drive process improvements and regulatory alignment across the state.
Required Qualifications:
- Active Louisiana Pharmacist License in good standing.
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of pharmacy experience in a clinical or regulated setting.
- Multi-site leadership or retail healthcare management experience preferred.
- In-depth understanding of Louisiana Cannabis Regulations (LAC 51:XXIX) and R.S. 40:1046.
- Strong patient counseling, compliance auditing, and regulatory documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and team leadership capabilities.
- Ability to travel to assigned locations and remain on-call 40 hours per week.
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Ability to travel throughout Louisiana to assigned stores.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform in a retail healthcare environment for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, if needed.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
