Production Designer
Our Story:
Story Cannabis was built by misfits on a mission — people bold enough to shift the cannabis narrative and create something better. Founded in 2021 by industry veterans, Story is a vertically integrated company headquartered in Phoenix, operating across Arizona, Maryland, Ohio, and Louisiana, and we’re just getting started.
Our vision is to bring hope, happiness, and healing to the world through cannabis, and we’re doing it one state, one store, and one customer at a time.
Leadership defines how we show up. Data drives how we grow. Gratitude keeps us grounded. Unity fuels our momentum. And growth, in every sense, inspires everything we do.
If you’re ready to challenge what’s expected and shape the future of cannabis, your next chapter starts with Story.
Overview:
We are looking for a Production Designer to support the development, adaptation, and delivery of creative across Story Cannabis and our portfolio of brands. Reporting directly to the Creative Services Manager, this role will help translate approved concepts and brand standards into polished, production-ready assets across digital, print, retail, packaging, social, eCommerce, CRM, events, and sales channels.
This is a highly hands-on design and production role for someone who combines strong visual design skills with exceptional attention to detail, organization, and technical execution. The Production Designer will be responsible for adapting campaign creative across multiple formats, markets, products, retail locations, and regulatory requirements while ensuring every asset is accurate, consistent, and delivered on time.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and resourceful designer who works efficiently in a fast-paced environment and is equally comfortable resizing digital assets, preparing files for print, versioning regulated materials, updating packaging artwork, and organizing creative files and templates.
Responsibilities:
- Design, adapt, and produce creative assets across digital, print, retail, eCommerce, CRM, social media, packaging, presentations, events, and sales channels.
- Translate approved creative concepts, campaign designs, and brand guidelines into polished, production-ready executions.
- Create and update retail marketing materials, including signage, window graphics, point-of-sale materials, menus, merchandising assets, promotional materials, and in-store communications.
- Produce digital marketing assets, including website graphics, digital advertising, email graphics, social media content, eCommerce imagery, and other channel-specific creative.
- Support wholesale marketing and sales initiatives by producing sell sheets, retailer-facing materials, product launch tools, presentations, displays, trade marketing assets, and budtender education materials.
- Adapt master creative across multiple brands, markets, products, retail locations, promotional offers, sizes, channels, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare accurate production-ready files, including file setup, resizing, versioning, preflight, prepress, bleeds, color management, image resolution, print specifications, and final vendor handoff.
- Support packaging development, packaging updates, line extensions, and new product launches by creating and revising artwork, mechanical files, labels, dielines, and state-specific versions.
- Apply brand standards consistently across typography, imagery, layout, color, identity, and overall creative execution.
- Review files carefully for accuracy, including copy, pricing, promotional details, product information, dimensions, disclaimers, regulatory language, and production specifications.
- Partner with the Creative Services Manager to execute campaign creative, respond to feedback, and maintain a consistent level of quality across all deliverables.
- Collaborate with Brand Marketing, Retail Marketing, CRM, eCommerce, Wholesale, Sales, Operations, Product, Compliance, and other cross-functional stakeholders to support business priorities.
- Work with printers, fabricators, production vendors, agencies, and freelancers to confirm specifications, resolve production issues, and ensure accurate final output.
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines while communicating progress, identifying risks, and escalating questions or conflicts as needed.
- Maintain organized working files, final artwork, templates, logos, photography, packaging files, and other creative assets using established naming and archival standards.
- Build and maintain reusable templates and production systems that improve creative consistency, speed, and scalability.
- Support photography and content production through image selection, retouching, cropping, color correction, file preparation, and asset organization.
- Incorporate stakeholder feedback accurately and efficiently while maintaining brand standards and project requirements.
- Perform quality-control reviews of creative files before release, ensuring that deliverables are complete, accurate, technically sound, and ready for their intended channel or vendor.
- Stay current on design tools, production methods, platform specifications, retail formats, and cannabis-industry requirements relevant to the role.
- Balance creative quality with speed, accuracy, scalability, and the operational needs of a multi-state organization.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of professional experience in production design, graphic design, marketing design, prepress, or a related creative discipline.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating polished design execution across digital and print channels, with experience adapting established creative across multiple formats and applications.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, with a strong understanding of typography, layout, visual hierarchy, image preparation, and brand systems.
- Experience preparing production-ready files, including resizing, versioning, preflight, prepress, bleeds, color management, image resolution, packaging mechanicals, and vendor specifications.
- Exceptional attention to detail and demonstrated ability to proofread creative for copy, layout, dimensions, product information, promotional details, and technical accuracy.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, versions, and rounds of feedback in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience supporting consumer-facing brands, preferably in cannabis, CPG, retail, lifestyle, food and beverage, or hospitality, with packaging, merchandising, multi-brand, or multi-location retail experience preferred.

- Occasional lifting, carrying, or transporting of marketing materials, signage, creative samples, or event supplies up to 25 pounds may be required.
