About this role:

Straight Arrow News is looking for a Morning Digital Producer with a passion for the organization’s mission and the ability to create unbiased, fact-based news content. The ideal candidate must be curious, well-versed in digital content platforms (WordPress experience required), possess a dynamic digital journalism skill set and prioritize attention to detail.

This person must be able to pass a written assessment involving drafting original web copy and editing web copy drafts while staying consistent with AP Style.

Responsibilities:

• Meticulously proofread, edit and fact-check web copy.
• Research, pitch, write, produce and copy-edit daily news stories and issue-driven enterprise reports for digital platforms on a deadline.
• Produce WordPress packages independently or in conjunction with other newsroom staffers.
• Support reporters in all phases of content production, from researching and scripting to digital publishing.
• Support digital team members in managing content curation, presentation and organization across the website and digital platforms.
• Create, categorize and maintain web pages across the website, ensuring they are search engine optimized and user-friendly.

Qualifications:

• Exceptional writing and copy editing skills.
• Mastery of AP Style and knowledge of when to reference Stylebook and brand-specific guides.
• Proven ability to independently proofread, fact-check and correct broadcast scripts and digital copy prior to publication.
• 3+ years of producing experience for a digital news site.
• Familiarity with Google Drive/Docs, WordPress and Slack (or equivalent applications / demonstrated proficiency in mastering new content management systems, production software and communication platforms).
• Understanding of basic news-specific SEO practices.
• Understanding of storytelling-focused content strategy.
• Understanding of the differences between writing for web/digital and writing for broadcast/video.
• Must have a strong sense of bias, sensationalism and balance.
• Collaborative self-starter.

Compensation & Benefits:

• The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000.
