Linux System Administrator (Remote)
Are you a seasoned Linux System Administrator with a passion for higher education technology? Strata Information Group (SIG) is looking for professionals like you to bring your expertise to our team. Required Qualifications of the Linux System Administrator:
- Previous experience working in a higher education institution.
- Previous experience with Ellucian Banner ERP
- Must have a minimum of 5 years Linux Systems Administration experience.
- 5+ years experience working with various Linux distributions (Red Hat/CentOS preferred).
- Significant experience designing, building, configuring, and troubleshooting Oracle Linux, RedHat Linux servers.
- Significant experience building, configuring, and maintaining physical & Virtualized servers.
- 5+ years experience with server virtualization technologies (e.g., VMWare, Hyper-V, Xen, etc.).
- Experience performing in-place Linux upgrades using LEAPP will be a plus point.
- Manage Linux and related open source systems (apache, bind, postfix, memcached, mysql, etc.).
- Familiarity and operational knowledge of open source systems in a mixed Windows/Linux environment.
- Knowledge of data storage technologies such as NAS or SAN.
- Configure a secure system and monitor system security.
- Management of system backups.
- Basic knowledge of network administration and troubleshooting.
- Proactive self-starter with the ability to drive projects through to completion.
- Ability to manage multiple complex and time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
- Experience working together with teams from several business areas to facilitate the orderly execution of a proposed project plan.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ansible Experience a plus
- Certification on the OS, AWS, Azure will be a plus point
Responsibilities of the Senior Linux System Administrator:
- Design, implement, and evaluate current and future infrastructure initiatives for the highest level of efficiency and performance.
- Perform Linux OS installations, patching and upgrades.
- Monitor daily systems, evaluate the availability of all server resources and carry out all Linux server tasks.
- Assist in the setup and deployment of all virtual machines, as well as the installation and backup of all configuration procedures.
- Maintain and monitor all patch releases, as well as devise multiple patch installation procedures and keep all systems up to date per NIST standards.
- Deliver resilient and robust designs – lead and participate in technical discussions across product teams.
- Design and document SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for system administration activities.
- Perform problem diagnosis, troubleshooting and resolution.
- Maintain operating systems and associated infrastructure software.
- Collaborate with clients to roll out and automate configuration & release of builds to Production.
- Provide ongoing management & support for infrastructure to clients running Ellucian Products.
- Maintain site servers and hosted web applications, ensuring uptime and site responsiveness.
- Develop tools and scripts to assist with routine maintenance tasks.
Pay and Benefits
- The salary range is $45-$65/hour

The listed salary range for this position is indicative and subject to adjustment based on the candidate's unique skills and location. Final compensation will be determined through mutual agreement between the successful candidate and SIG.
