Assistant Manager, Electrical Shop

Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5+. Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms that enable routine access to the hypersonic environment. We deliver flight data critical to validating system performance and achieving rapid technology deployment. Together with our customers, we drive innovations that are imperative to advancing national security.

Stratolaunch is developing an air-launch platform to contribute to high-speed research and development.  To achieve these great efforts, Stratolaunch needs an Assistant Manager of Manufacturing. The Assistant Manager, assigned to the Electrical Shop, is responsible for directing the production activities of the Electrical Technicians while also coordinating with the rest of the organization: Safety, Quality Control, Engineering, Property Control, Scheduling, and Department Leads.  This person is responsible for driving operational excellence in the areas of Safety, Quality, Schedule, Housekeeping, and Culture.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides a safe environment for all personnel in area of responsibility.
  • Oversees the day-to-day activities of the Electrical Department.
  • Follows and champions Leader Standard Work to balance Safety, Quality, Schedule, Cost, and People needs. Also leads the gathering of defect data.
  • Analyzes Safety Issues and Quality defects along with providing solutions.
  • Studies the organization's manufacturing processes and suggests opportunities for process improvement or efficiency optimization.
  • Implements a manufacturing plan and production schedule that increases profit while reducing overhead.
  • Collects data on team/department performance, tracks progress against goals and proposes adjustments to policies and procedures as needed.
  • Modifies employee schedules or staffing plans to reduce labor costs while meeting output expectations.
  • Creates and strengthens the Electrical Technician team through coaching and training
  • Partners with Shop Lead to distribute work to team of Technicians within the department
  • Follows up and provides feedback on daily status of Work Orders with Program Manager regarding quality and schedule.
  • Works with program management department to develop a clear weekly set of tasks, milestones, and objectives for the Electrical team that supports program/company schedule. This may include but is not limited to: Planning Work durations for individual tasks, planning and coordinating within other areas of the program to deconflict when needed, consulting with engineering as required, etc.
  • Assists leadership in improving the organization's financial performance and competitive positioning through continuous improvement of production related processes through utilization of Lean tools.
  • Provides technical guidance to personnel within the Company regarding the assembly of harnesses and vehicle installations.
  • Leads coordination ongoing activities with Manufacturing, Engineering, Training, Programs, Quality, Safety, and Leadership.
  • Drives performance of Root-Cause Analysis activities.
  • Partners with Shop Lead to accomplish employee timecards, performance evaluations, training, etc.
  • Provides input to and partners with the area Manager for corrective action and/or addressing behavior and/or conflicts.
  • Maintains flexibility and adjusts to the changing needs of the program and/or company which could include but is not limited to: OT when needed, flexible work schedule etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience in Production of low-rate aerospace/aircraft products.
  • Proven record of generating improvements in safety, defect and cost reduction, and improving communication.
  • Effective communication skills, to include listening, reading and following verbal and written instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to plan work sequence of operation
  • History of demonstrated strong manufacturing skills
  • Proven leadership skills, organizing and leading meetings, organizing written messages.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust communication style depending on audience (technicians, engineers, directors, peers, etc.)
  • Must have demonstrated experience in making fact focused decisions and bringing solutions forward to resolve conflict and/or navigate change. 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in a related field
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering (preferred)
  • IPC-620B, 610 and J Standard qualified 
  • Experience resolving Harness/Electrical Manufacturing issues at Root-Cause level.
  • Experience sourcing tools and equipment for harness manufacturing, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • 5+ years of experience in assembly of electrical aerospace harnesses or components (preferred)
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience

  • This position is located in Mojave, CA
  • Limited travel may be required.
  • $102,000-$148,000
  • Eligible for up to 10% annual bonus
