
Welder Fabricator III

Stratolaunch needs an experienced Welder to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in aerospace welding/fabrication and is experienced in tig/mig welding of aluminum, stainless steel, and Inconel parts. A welder must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions. The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand and great attention to detail. Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential. This position requires the ability to follow engineering drawings and detailed work instructions with excellent attention to detail in a small team environment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates expert level of proficiency with all tools, equipment, and techniques for this role.
- Performs the most difficult technical projects and/or issues such as solves design/installation problems, reduces defects and improves build time.
- Completes non-routine and most complex fabrication and welding tasks with minimal supervision/guidance.
- Completes non-routine and most complex fabrication/welding tasks efficiently with high quality, typically incurring zero workmanship defects.
- Proficient with planning layouts and processes for complex weldments to include but not limited to: Talon-A ballasts mounting frame and LOX and JET large diameter lines.
- Demonstrates deep knowledge in distortion control and fabrication practices.
- Works closely with engineers to provides input on design for manufacturability.
- Troubleshoots problems, identifies, and communicates design discrepancies. Identifies and suggests design improvements.
- Assist engineering in reviewing MOT’s and drawings as necessary.
- Performs visual inspections of own work to ensure the product meets specifications and design intent.
- Performs technical lead level responsibilities within work group.
- Routinely evaluates his/her own product quality as well as lower-level welder fabricators for defects and continuous improvement.
- Completes dimensional checks of component or assembly with calibrated measuring devices to ensure correct dimensions per MOT’s/drawings.
- Discusses identified defects with those responsible for the products and recommends necessary corrective actions.
- Identifies and reports defects, issues, and concerns to respective leadership, engineering, and quality assurance.
- Provides guidance, mentorship, or training to equal or lower-level welder fabricator.
- Demonstrates strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects at a time.
- Maintains welding equipment and ensure proper usage and compliance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Consistently communicates, collaborates, and demonstrates sense of urgency.
- Makes a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes.
- Demonstrates ability to perform in the capacity of a Subject Matter Expert (SME) applying expertise obtained through deep and broad industry knowledge acquired through years of experience or a combination of achieved higher education and related years of work experience within other companies.
- Proven ability to guide employees and delegate effectively.
- May lead team of welder fabricators as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering orders, blueprints, GD&T and written work instructions
- Proficiency in the use of precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges and other scales
- Capable of manufacturing tight tolerance parts
- Capable of designing parts and fixtures
- Ability to adapt quickly, change schedule in a fast-paced environment and work independently without supervision
- Ability to plan and execute a sequence of operations
- Practice safe operating procedures with all shop equipment
- Proficient in such material as stainless steel, aluminum, Inconel, mild steel
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma/GED
- 10+ years related experience and/or expertise with tools and techniques
- Associate degree, professional certification or license preferred
