Global Director of IT
About this role
Strava is the app for active people. With over 150 million athletes in more than 185 countries, it’s more than tracking workouts—it’s where connection, motivation, and personal bests thrive. No matter your activity, gear, or goals, Strava’s got you covered. Find your crew, crush your milestones, and keep moving forward. Start your journey with Strava today.
Our mission is simple: to motivate people to live their best active lives. We believe in the power of movement to connect and drive people forward.
This role sits in the Strava Security and IT organization, which exists to protect and support Strava’s people, business, and data through integrated, proactive security practices. We work across all security domains, including, but not limited to, product security, vulnerability management, incident response, infrastructure, network, governance, and enterprise security.
We follow a flexible hybrid model that generally translates to around more than half your time on-site in our San Francisco office— three days per week.
What You’ll Do:
- You enjoy designing and optimizing IT systems and processes across identity, device management, enterprise applications, and collaboration tools.
- Thrive in high-visibility roles where strong communication and proactive alignment with executives, engineering, and operations are key.
- You’re excited to automate IT workflows and improve service delivery through data, metrics, and thoughtful process design.
- You want to play a central role in connecting and supporting the technology experience of both Strava and Runna employees globally.
- Establish clear ownership, metrics, and escalation workflows across all IT domains—service desk, IAM, enterprise applications, device management, networking, and A/V.
- Drive measurable improvements in system reliability, user satisfaction, and response times.
- Deliver a consistent and secure IT experience across both Strava and Runna environments.
- Automate repetitive IT processes, provisioning, and lifecycle management to improve scale and reduce risk.
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with business and technical partners through clear, consistent, and transparent communication.
- Lead and mentoring a small but high-performing IT team while setting a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
- Bring 10+ years of experience leading IT operations or enterprise technology functions in fast-scaling, global organizations.
- Have deep technical expertise across service desk operations, IAM (Okta preferred), enterprise applications (Google Workspace, Slack, etc.), device management (Jamf, InTune), networking, and conference room A/V systems.
- Have successfully led IT automation or digital transformation initiatives that improved efficiency and end-user experience.
- Understand how to manage SaaS ecosystems and vendor relationships with an eye toward cost, reliability, and security.
- Communicate with clarity and confidence across all levels of the organization, especially during high-impact or time-sensitive events.
- Demonstrate a pragmatic, business-aligned mindset—balancing operational reliability, security, and user experience.
- Are collaborative, approachable, and energized by working cross-functionally with engineering, finance, and legal teams.
