Trainer (Contract)

Remote

Street Smarts VR is a veteran-owned, dual-use technology platform that's revolutionizing tactical training through virtual reality and improving public safety outcomes. By integrating software, hardware, and training data, SSVR's solution is transforming the VR training landscape.

Across four continents, 10,000 users across dozens of US military and police departments currently train with SSVR - and that's a tiny fraction of the 5 million first responders in the US who carry weapons and for whom training is not just a requirement but a moral imperative. SSVR is forecasting rapid growth over the coming years in both state and local law enforcement as well as all four branches of the US Military.

At Street Smarts VR, we understand that military and first responders consistently operate in high stress, high consequence environments. We’ve lived it. So by leveraging virtual reality and real-world data sources, we’ve built a fully immersive platform that conditions users to the real life stressors they will face in the field.

We are looking for Contract Trainers across the US and Canada to join our growing Learning, Development, and Support Team within the Customer Experience (CX) team. The CX team is passionate about serving as the customer’s voice and demonstrating the value of our product offerings. The main goals of the team are to foster product adoption and user satisfaction, assist with change management, capture and contextualize product feedback for our engineering and product teams, track issue resolution, explain new feature enhancements, and mitigate/prioritize any pain points before they become critical issues.

Street Smarts VR is seeking an experienced and dynamic train-the-trainer (T3) contractor to deliver high-quality, immersive training sessions for our customers utilizing advanced Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) training solutions. This role is integral to ensuring customers maximize their use of the Street Smarts VR platform through comprehensive training, ongoing education, and hands-on demonstrations.

As a T3 contractor, you will provide on-site and virtual training to law enforcement, military, and other professional organizations. You may also be asked to conduct product demonstrations for prospective clients, assist in business development efforts at industry trade shows, and support customer success and customer support initiatives when needed.

This is a highly flexible, project-based contract position, ideal for individuals with a strong background in training, education, or instructional delivery—particularly in law enforcement, military, or high-tech training environments. Trainers must be comfortable with traveling, engaging with a wide range of learners, adapting to new training technologies, and physically handling VR/MR training equipment. You must have the ability to foster and maintain strong customer relationships, understand a customer’s desired business outcomes, and demonstrate a mastery of our product offerings to help customers gain maximum value from our products and services. You are key to driving product adoption.

While this is a fully remote position, you must live in your assigned region. The role requires extensive travel during our busiest seasons for onsite customer training and/or demo conference support (if applicable) as well as availability to work remotely from home to lead virtual training and support sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain T3 Certification as an official Street Smarts VR representative, which includes an in-depth onboarding and training program. This certification process covers comprehensive training on all hardware lines, software platforms, troubleshooting techniques, and both internal and external operational procedures.
  • Participate in customer kick-off calls and internal knowledge transfers to ensure alignment before the training session.
  • Deliver in-depth, interactive and structured training sessions onsite and virtually on Street Smarts VR’s immersive training solutions, ensuring customers can effectively utilize the platform.
  • Teach customers how to integrate VR/MR simulations into their existing training programs, emphasizing best practices, scenario development, and system functionality.
  • Guide users through hardware setup, software operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Provide structured learning experiences, including new product training, software updates, and customized training solutions tailored to customer needs.
  • Maintain ongoing engagement with trainees, ensuring comprehension and knowledge retention through refreshers and follow-up sessions.
  • Complete after action reports and gather feedback.
  • Maintain an up-to-date calendar of availability.
  • Lift and transport VR equipment cases (up to 80 lbs), assisting with system setup, teardown, and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date with new software releases, product enhancements, and training methodologies by completing virtual or onsite internal training, reading product updates, and engaging with Street Smarts VR’s Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Participate in internal training sessions to maintain system proficiency and demonstrate expertise through periodic performance assessments.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and assist with customer support inquiries when on-site at customer locations, escalating complex problems to internal teams as needed.
  • Assist with demos/sales/conferences, standby support events, regional training events, and customer support queue as needed.
  • Other responsibilities based on business need.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Minimum of 3-5+ years of consulting, training, law enforcement or military experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 90% of the time (CONUS and OCONOUS (as needed))  for on-site training, customer visits, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Ability to handle competing priorities across multiple customers and work independently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain flexibility.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and foster teamwork and empathy.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication.
  • Outstanding presentation skills.
  • An understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Ability to document and track tasks in a detailed manner.
  • Willingness to operate outside of assigned projects and pitch in wherever necessary.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to train individuals and groups effectively in both in-person and virtual settings
  • Experience working with immersive training technologies, such as Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR), or simulation-based training systems (not required but preferred).
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting VR/MR training systems in a live training environment.
  • Ability to work from home to lead training sessions in a quiet, undisturbed space
  • Comfortable lifting and transporting VR/MR equipment, which may include cases weighing up to 80 lbs.
  • Tech-savvy and adaptable, with the ability to quickly learn and train others on new software, hardware, and VR/MR training platforms.
  • Self-motivated and independent, capable of managing training schedules, communicating effectively with clients, and meeting contractual obligations.

You can expect up to 90% travel in this role, however, training assignments are dependent on business need and will be assigned by region and availability.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
