Do you thrive in environments where leadership and hands-on coding go hand-in-hand? At our firm, we are seeking an exceptional Software Engineering Manager who will lead by example—being an individual contributor, guiding, mentoring, and building alongside the engineering team, while still actively coding 50% of the time. If you're passionate about technology, eager to contribute directly to code, and excited about driving impactful financial and real asset software solutions, this is the perfect role for you.

Your Impact and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Code: Manage a high-performing remote engineering team while being a personal contributor to the codebase regularly. Lead by example in technical decisions and problem-solving.
  • Code Quality Stewardship: Conduct detailed code reviews to maintain best coding practices, ensuring top-notch quality and maintainability across all projects.
  • Agile Execution: Implement and refine Agile SDLC processes, enabling smooth project management and timely delivery.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with finance, asset management, and investment professionals to design and build software that aligns with business goals and solves complex challenges.
  • Cultivate a Learning Culture: Foster a dynamic environment of continuous learning, encouraging your team to stay ahead of emerging technologies and trends.
  • Optimize Performance: Track team performance metrics and develop strategies to enhance productivity, efficiency, and code quality.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Technical Mastery + Leadership:
    • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years leading engineering teams.
    • Strong experience in finance, oil & gas, fintech, or investment management is highly preferred.
  • Hands-On Leadership: You love building as much as you love leading—actively coding and solving problems alongside your team members.
  • Exceptional Communication: Ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Team Empowerment: A proven track record of fostering collaboration, empathy, and psychological safety within engineering teams.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Excited about building innovative solutions and unafraid to take calculated risks to drive value.
  • Strategic Vision: Adept at balancing day-to-day execution with long-term goals, ensuring that projects align with the company’s mission.
  • Detail-Oriented: You have an eye for precision—whether it’s in coding, project management, or understanding complex financial systems.
  • Education: A Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field is a plus, but equivalent hands-on experience will be seriously considered.

Technical Skills:

  • Tech Stack: Proficiency in Ruby on rails or Python with a deep understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
  • API Design: Develop and maintain RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
  • System Design: Architect and design scalable, reliable, and secure systems that support business needs.
Web Development: Strong experience in web development, cloud technologies, and Docker.
  • Cloud Native: Expertise in developing cloud-native applications with hands-on experience in DevOps practices.
  • Databases: Proficiency in relational and NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
  • Message Queues: Experience with message queues like Kafka.
  • Distributed Systems: Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and availability.
  • SaaS Applications: Hands-on experience in designing and developing enterprise SaaS applications.
  • Data Modeling: Experienced in data modeling and polyglot persistence, including SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Architecture: Experience with cloud architecture, application architecture, and network architecture.
  • Project Management: Expertise in Agile methodologies with a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within scope.
  • DevOps & CI/CD: Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
