This individual will manage a team of buyers and analysts, oversee upstream transaction execution, and collaborate cross-functionally to accelerate acquisition throughput. The VP will play a key role in advancing deal flow, structuring and negotiating transactions, resolving title issues, and supporting technology-driven process improvements across the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the acquisitions team, ensuring efficient execution of high-volume, high-quality mineral and surface acquisitions.

  • Oversee and negotiate upstream business transactions, including oil and gas leases, mineral rights purchases, and surface estate acquisitions.

  • Develop and manage contractual agreements, ensuring accuracy, enforceability, and strategic alignment with firm goals.

  • Coordinate closely with legal, land, finance, and operations teams to ensure clean title, contractual clarity, and risk mitigation.

  • Drive diligence and underwriting efforts, ensuring sound evaluation of title, lease terms, surface use agreements, and valuation metrics.

  • Manage and enhance acquisition processes and systems, including CRM, land software, and data capture platforms to improve visibility and performance.

  • Resolve complex title and contractual disputes by leveraging internal knowledge and external counsel, ensuring timely and cost-effective outcomes.

  • Support investment committee materials, clearly presenting asset-level metrics, market context, and strategic rationale.

  • Collaborate with portfolio operations post-close, particularly on financial reporting, lease compliance, and performance optimization.

Team Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and mentorship to a team of buyers and acquisition analysts, setting clear performance goals and professional development plans.

  • Drive acquisition throughput and quality by improving sourcing methods, negotiation protocols, and diligence frameworks.

  • Work with leadership to scale processes and team structure as the firm grows its upstream acquisition platform.

Skills and Requirements

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities; hands-on modeling skills a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD, MBA, or CPL/Landman certification preferred.
