About Cash Balance Actuaries, (CBA):
With employees spread across 11 states, Cash Balance Actuaries (CBA) is an actuarial firm specializing in designing and administering flexible & easy-to-understand cash balance plans that meet the specific needs of each unique client. CBA is an operating partner of Strongpoint Partners, a leading tech-enabled financial services retirement platform backed by Shore Capital Partners (SCP).
Role Overview:
Cash Balance Actuaries, (CBA), a Strongpoint Partner, is seeking an experienced Enrolled Actuary with experience in the small business marketplace. To qualify for the position, candidates must be an Enrolled Actuary - enrolled by the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries to perform actuarial services under the Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 with at least five years of experience as an Enrolled Actuary. Responsibilities of this role include everything related to handling Cash Balance/Defined Benefit plans with fewer than 500 participants. Experience with and knowledge of ASC 715 and other FASB requirements is preferred. This is a great opportunity for a motivated candidate who wants to be an integral part of a growing financial services firm.
This is a virtual position where you would be expected to work from home. CBA provides extremely flexible work schedules, excellent benefits, and a laid-back, friendly environment. As part of a small company, you will have many responsibilities and will have to be flexible and friendly. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and ability. High performers will be rewarded as the pay structure will include a base salary plus quarterly and annual bonus structures.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform and review actuarial valuations for Defined Benefit / Cash Balance plans in accordance with IRS laws and regulations.
- Prepare and review annual non-discrimination testing for qualified pension plans including Cash Balance, Defined Benefit, 401(k), Profit Sharing, and Money Purchase plans.
- Review PBGC filings and notices.
- Certify contribution and asset amounts for AFTAP.
- Prepare and review annual FASB reports.
- Prepare and review distribution packages and annual participant statements.
- Prepare, review, and deliver government form filings in a timely manner, (e.g., IRS & DOL form 5500, Schedule SB, etc.).
- Prepare preliminary design studies and projections that will meet all nondiscrimination requirements.
- Prepare, review, and consult regarding plan termination filings with IRS and PBGC.
- Represent clients in audits with IRS, PBGC and DOL, P/T Exemption and VCP Filings.
- Lead and/or participate in retirement plan consulting projects.
- Direct client contact and new business development is at your discretion and will be rewarded, but not required.
- Ability to work in energized, fast-paced environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of relevant small plan actuarial experience.
- Knowledge of business entities as they relate to plan compensation and plan design.
- Excellent knowledge of 415 limit, 410(b), Top Heavy and 401(a)(4) non-discrimination testing.
- Thorough knowledge of Cash Balance Plans.
- Ability to understand client business issues how they affect the retirement plan.
- Organized individual able to set priorities, meet deadlines, and be detail-oriented.
- Team player, collaborative, able to work with and through others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills internally and externally.
- Ability to work well under pressure with multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to act with integrity, be proactive with client needs, seek to continuously improve service, constantly focus on professional growth and work collaboratively with the entire team.
