Position Summary:
The Retirement Plan Specialist supports the administration of qualified retirement plans by assisting with day-to-day operational tasks, data processing, and client service needs. This role works closely with Plan Administrators and Senior Administrators, helping ensure plans are administered accurately, timely, and in compliance, without having full responsibility for plans from start to finish.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys the technical and detail-oriented side of retirement plan administration and wants to build deeper expertise while working as part of a collaborative team.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a fully remote position and can be performed from anywhere within the United States; however, due to the primary locations of our client teams, preference will be given to those in the Central and Eastern time zones.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the administration of qualified retirement plans (401(k), profit sharing, cash balance, etc.) under the direction of a Plan Administrator.
- Prepare and review plan data for annual testing, valuations, and compliance tasks.
- Process contribution uploads, distributions, loans, and related documentation.
- Support preparation of annual compliance testing (ADP/ACP, coverage, top-heavy, etc.).
- Assist with Form 5500 preparation and filings.
- Help review census data for accuracy and completeness; follow up with clients as needed.
- Maintain plan records and update internal systems and documentation.
- Respond to routine client inquiries and coordinate with recordkeepers, advisors, and internal teams.
- Assist with plan amendments, restatements, and required notices assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 1–3+ years of experience in retirement plan administration, recordkeeping, or related financial services support
- Familiarity with qualified retirement plans and basic ERISA concepts preferred
- Experience working with plan data, spreadsheets, and administrative systems
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Comfortable working in Excel and administrative software
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Team-oriented, dependable, and eager to learn
- Interest in growing technical knowledge within retirement plan administration
