Position Summary

The Finway Group, a Strongpoint partner, is seeking an experienced Loans & Distributions Manager to lead our Loans and Distributions team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented retirement plan professional who enjoys leading people, improving processes, and delivering exceptional client service.

In this position, you will oversee the daily operations of the Loans and Distributions team, ensuring participant requests are processed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with plan documents and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for managing team workloads, monitoring performance, resolving complex issues, and maintaining strong relationships with recordkeepers and internal stakeholders.

The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of retirement plan loans and distributions, proven leadership experience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement. PLEASE NOTE: This is a fully remote position open to candidates located anywhere within the United States. Due to the primary locations of our client teams, preference will be given to candidates in the Central and Eastern time zones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Loans and Distributions team, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and ongoing professional development.

  • Oversee the daily processing of participant loan and distribution requests, assigning and balancing workloads to meet established 24–48-hour processing targets.

  • Monitor team productivity, accuracy, turnaround times, and overall performance, providing regular reporting and updates to leadership.

  • Review and approve complex or high-risk transactions, including hardship withdrawals, Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs), required minimum distributions (RMDs), and terminated-plan distributions.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex issues involving recordkeepers, clients, and plan participants, ensuring timely and effective resolution.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with multiple recordkeepers to support accurate, compliant, and efficient transaction processing.

  • Develop, document, and maintain operational procedures, checklists, and internal controls to promote consistency, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve operational efficiency, and implement process improvements or automation.

  • Oversee the accuracy and integrity of information maintained in PensionPro, FT William, recordkeeper platforms, and ERISApedia.

  • Stay informed of regulatory and legislative developments affecting retirement plan loans and distributions, updating team procedures as needed.

  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers, Plan Administrators, and leadership to deliver exceptional client service and support Finway's 3(16) fiduciary responsibilities.

  • Provide hands-on support with transaction processing and client or participant calls during periods of increased volume.

  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience processing retirement plan loans and distributions, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or team leadership role.

  • Strong working knowledge of qualified retirement plan documents and applicable IRS and Department of Labor (DOL) regulations governing loans, distributions, and tax withholding.

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams in high-volume processing environments with established service-level expectations and turnaround metrics.

  • Proven ability to develop and implement efficient workflows, documented procedures, and quality-control processes.

  • Experience working with major retirement plan recordkeepers, including Empower, Voya, John Hancock, Principal, and Transamerica, is a plus.

  • Familiarity with PensionPro, FT William, and ERISApedia preferred.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment when addressing complex or escalated issues.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines and maintain accuracy.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a commitment to coaching, mentoring, and developing team members.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong commitment to customer service.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $65,000–$85,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and relevant industry expertise.
