DevOps Engineer

As a member of our DevOps team, you will work closely with your peers and members of our development team to help refine development processes and infrastructure to bring the latest technologies and methodologies to our infrastructure and technical teams. Submittable products are high-availability, high-traffic SaaS applications requiring production support; our DevOps team is critical in responding to production issues, tackling complex problems, and helping drive our team’s technological direction.

How You’ll Make an Impact:
The DevOps Engineer will help refine our development processes and infrastructure to bring the latest technologies and methodologies to the team. This role is also responsible for providing production support and will respond to production issues that arise, tackle complex problems, and contribute to the team’s technological direction. Success in this role is further defined by the ability to self-manage time and priorities to maximize output efficiently.
- Help shape, maintain, and support large-scale distributed cloud infrastructure (AWS and Azure)
- Optimize the automation and tools that enable teams to accelerate delivery
- Perform infrastructure audits to identify risks, increase observability of logs, metrics, and tracing
- Maintain continuous integration and deployment pipelines
- Manage AWS costs
- Provide on-call support for infrastructure-related issues
- Maintain infrastructure documentation, assist with post-mortems and root cause analysis
- Follow security best practices to ensure compliance with company policy
- Improve the development experience
Skills & Experience We Hope You Bring:
- 3+ years as an engineer on a software development team
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes (EKS, AKS, service mesh) and GitOps (Flux, ArgoCD)
- Familiarity with observability tools such as DataDog and Prometheus/Grafana
- Solid experience with networking, including TCP/IP, Akamai/CDN, DNS, Firewalls
- Knowledge of Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices
- Prior experience working in cross-functional teams
- Systems architecture and design skills
- Solid experience with security and compliance best practices
- Build and deployment automation experience
- Proficiency with common ops tooling (containerization, VMs, Logstash + Kibana, etc)
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Comfort maintaining live production systems
- Love of learning
- Thrives in a highly collaborative environment and enjoys the change to pair with peers
Additional/Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate well with others
- Familiarity with client-side JavaScript frameworks (preferably AngularJS/Angular)
- Developing, interfacing with, and integrating with REST APIs
- Automated testing tools and techniques
- Debugging tools and techniques
- Knowing when, why, and how to refactor
- AWS Certification(s) (SA, SysOps)
- GitHub Actions or Jenkins
- SOC 2 compliance
Salary Details: The annual salary range for this position is $130,000-$160,000. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. We also have a location-based compensation structure; there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
Position Location: This role will be located in Bellevue, WA, or, Missoula, MT following a hybrid work model. Employees are expected to be willing to work from one of our office locations twice a week or as needed by your team.
