As Submittable continues to scale, we are seeking a strategic and hands-on Controller & Director of Accounting, to lead our accounting function. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will oversee all accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP and optimizing financial processes. This role will be instrumental in providing timely, accurate financial insights to support business growth.

How You’ll Make an Impact: As the Controller & Director of Accounting, you will be the trusted leader overseeing our accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP principles and guiding the company through financial growth and scaling efforts. You will collaborate closely with the executive leadership team and department leaders to drive operational efficiency and accuracy, ensuring that our financial operations support our business goals, objectives, and mission.

  • Lead the Accounting Team overseeing financial reporting, audits, budgeting, and tax
  • Maintain robust internal controls, ensuring accuracy in financial statements and adherence to GAAP.
  • Manage cash flow, forecasting, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and expense reporting.
  • Drive process improvements and system enhancements to support scalability.
  • Partner with FP&A to monitor budgets and provide strategic financial insights.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Mentor and develop accounting team members, fostering a high-performance culture.

About You:
We’re looking for an experienced accounting leader who combines technical expertise with a passion for creating value and supporting a mission-driven organization. You thrive in a fast-paced, scaling environment, and you're excited to lead a team in building and enhancing financial systems and processes.

Experience & Expertise:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA or MBA preferred
    • 8+ years of experience in accounting, ideally within SaaS or private equity-backed companies
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
    • Experience with NetSuite required; familiarity with Tableau and SFDC preferred
    • Proven leadership skills and ability to collaborate across departments
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment

Salary Details: This role's base salary pay range(s) is $180,000-$200,000 USD. This range represents the base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings (OTE) for commissionable roles. At Submittable, salary ranges may include several career levels. Salaries are determined by multiple factors, including location, local market variances, candidate experience and expertise, and internal peer equity, and may vary from the amounts listed above. 

Salary is just one component of Submittable’s total rewards package, which, depending on the position offered, may include additional compensation, such as equity awards and/or commission/bonus. 

Position Location: While we are open to considering remote candidates for this role, candidates in the Missoula, MT or Bellevue, WA areas are strongly preferred.
