We now need a results-driven Senior Data Engineer to join our Engineering & Automation team.

 

The Technology Division at Success Academy is the chief provider of technology infrastructure, application services, security, and support. The Division partners with teams across the organization to equip students, teachers, leaders, and staff with the innovative technology tools and know-how necessary to achieve academic and operational excellence.

 

The Enterprise Data and Analytics department’s purpose is to build a healthy data and technology culture. By focusing on the concrete educational outcomes we are trying to accomplish in our schools, the team develops technical and organizational systems that are user-friendly, scalable, and flexible. The department is responsible for all reporting, analytics, data infrastructure, training, and evangelization. 

 

This new Senior Data Engineer we are seeking will be instrumental in designing, building, and optimizing our data pipelines and data warehouse solutions on AWS. You will leverage your deep technical expertise to solve complex data challenges, implement best practices, and contribute to the evolution of our data platform. You will collaborate closely with data analysts, data scientists, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality data solutions that drive business value.

 

As a Senior Data Engineer,  you will be responsible for building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our business intelligence and analytical insights. We work with cutting-edge cloud technologies to ensure data is accessible, reliable, and performant, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization. We embrace DevOps practices and value innovation and continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines using Talend ETL tool.

  • Build and optimize our data warehouse on Amazon Redshift, ensuring performance and reliability.

  • Develop and implement data transformation models using DBT.

  • Write complex and efficient SQL queries to extract, transform, and load data.

  • Collaborate with data analysts and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.

  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub for code management and deployment.

  • Participate in agile development processes, utilizing JIRA for task management and tracking.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines and data warehouse performance, identifying and resolving issues proactively.

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of data governance and data quality processes.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering and cloud computing.

  • Mentor and guide junior data engineers on the team.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

  • 4+ years of experience in data engineering or a similar role.

  • Strong proficiency in building and maintaining ETL processes using Talend.

  • Extensive experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure, particularly S3 and Redshift.

  • Hands-on experience with DBT for data transformation and modeling.

  • Excellent SQL skills with the ability to write complex and optimized queries.

  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and best practices.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control using Git (preferably GitHub).

  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and project management tools like JIRA.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.  

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with other AWS services relevant to data engineering (e.g., Glue, EMR, Athena).  

  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python.

  • Experience with data visualization tools, particularly Looker.

  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks.

  • Contributions to open-source projects.
