Specialist, Special Education Compliance

Success Academy Charter Schools

Thanks for your interest in Success Academy! Running the largest, fastest-growing, and highest-performing network of public charter schools in New York City takes a village - families, children, teachers, staff and faculty, advocates, and supporters alike. We would love to welcome you to our community! We work tirelessly every day to ensure each child in NYC has access to a fun, rigorous, whole-child education regardless of zip code or economic status. When you join SA, you play a part in giving every student who walks through the doors of one of our 57 schools in NYC a fair shot at reaching his or her potential.

As the fastest growing, highest-performing charter school network in New York State, Success Academy is reimagining K-12 public education. Nationally recognized for our innovative, whole-child school model and outstanding academic results, Success Academy educators are empowering children from all backgrounds with the knowledge, skills, and self-belief to succeed in college and in life. We now need a results-driven Specialist to join our Special Education (Sprint) Compliance team.

Success Academies has a profoundly innovative schooling model that achieves outstanding results at scale, and our approach to children with Special Education services is just as radical. We begin with the core belief that disability does not mean an inability, that no child should be written off because of learning differences. Fifteen percent of our scholars receive Special Education support, and we designed and launched the Sprint program to ensure we provide these scholars with an outstanding education. While the identification of scholars in need of Special Education supports and the execution of the necessary interventions are carried out at the school-level, a supporting Network capability has shared responsibility and accountability for these scholars.

Reporting to the Sprint Compliance Program Manager, the Sprint Compliance role will be responsible for overseeing key compliance functions across a cohort of five schools, playing a vital role in supporting schools to meet all legal and regulatory requirements of the special education process. They will drive the implementation and monitoring of testing accommodations, oversee internal and external special education data systems, ensure documentation compliance in all systems, manage 504 plan creation and maintenance, and coordinate the scheduling of related services.

The role will also have a strong focus on ensuring accurate and timely billing to the NYC Department of Education for special education services through bi-monthly invoicing cycles. This Specialist will collaborate closely with Success Academy’s Finance and Technology teams to ensure all eligible services are tracked, documented, and billed with fidelity.

The Sprint Compliance team leads critical initiatives across the Network, including DOE billing, 504 compliance, testing accommodations implementation, scholar data systems management, related service scheduling, and high-stakes compliance case support. The team partners cross-functionally with Instructional Services, Advisory, Operations, Technology, and Finance, and works directly with NYC DOE entities such as the Committees on Special Education (CSEs), the Charter School Office (CSO), and the Office of Related Services (ORS) to ensure scholars receive the services they are entitled to with excellence and integrity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure Compliance Fidelity: Oversee the implementation of IEP and 504 accommodations, maintain key special education data systems, and ensure all required documentation is accurate, timely, and audit-ready.

  • Coordinate Related Services and Accommodations: Create and maintain related service schedules and testing accommodation groupings to ensure scholars receive mandated services without disruption.

  • Drive 504 Plan Management: Own the end-to-end process for creating, updating, and maintaining scholar 504 plans, ensuring alignment with legal mandates and scholar needs.

  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Serve as a liaison between Sprint Compliance, school-based teams, Network departments (Finance, Tech, Ops), and external DOE offices to ensure smooth execution of all compliance initiatives.

  • Lead DOE Billing Execution: Manage and execute bi-monthly DOE billing cycles for special education services across a cohort of schools, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all city and state regulations.

  • Monitor School Accountability: Support schools in meeting all special education compliance deadlines and quality standards by providing training, guidance, and proactive follow-through on outstanding deliverables.

  • Data System Management: Oversee the management of their internal and external special education systems, ensuring they are updated both accurately and efficiently.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 2+ years of experience in education, special education, operations, or regulatory compliance

  • Proven experience managing data systems, trackers, and sensitive documentation

Required Traits :

  • Strong data management skills

  • Fluency with Google Suite/Microsoft Office including Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel, and able to easily create clean/useful spreadsheets/trackers

  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including school leaders and external agencies

  • Extremely detail-oriented

  • Strong judgment, strategic thinking, communication, project management, and creative problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written skills

  • Understanding of student information systems and other educational technologies

  • Team player and willingness to learn outside the immediate scope of work

Preferred Qualifications & Traits :

  • Strong understanding of special education services and accommodations

  • Experience with special education technology systems within New York City

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
