Aircraft Design & Engineering Internships - Summer 2027

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in a related field, or equivalent relevant education/experience
  • Previous internship, work, or project experience in aerospace, electric aviation, EVs, engineering, manufacturing, or a related field
  • University, design, entrepreneurial, or personal projects demonstrating technical skills, creativity, or an interest in electric aviation

 

AIRCRAFT DESIGN & ENGINEERING SPECIFIC TEAMS

The teams within this focus area design, develop, test, and improve our aircraft- from early concepts and aircraft performance to materials, testing, flight test, and continued improvement. Select the Team(s) that best align with your interests and experience:

 

ADVANCED CONCEPTS 

Explores new aircraft configurations, technologies, and early design concepts to advance the performance, efficiency, and scalability of future electric aircraft. Strong candidates have experience in: 

  • Mechanical engineering, composites, and structural analysis
  • Design-build-test workflows
  • CAD (CATIA preferred) and FEA

 

AFTERMARKET 

Develops the parts, services, and support systems that keep BETA aircraft operating reliably throughout their lifecycle, helping build the foundation for commercial operations. Strong candidates have experience in: 

  • Spares forecasting & demand planning 
  • ERP systems
  • Parts fulfillment & inventory management 
  • Technical customer /flight ops support 
  • Process documentation & implementation 
  • Program/project management 
  • Troubleshooting and operational observation root cause analysis support
  • Lifecycle planning & maintenance 
  • Reliability, health monitoring and useful life modeling 
  • Tooling & equipment 

 

AIRWORTHINESS 

Ensures BETA’s aircraft, systems, and processes meet applicable airworthiness, safety, and certification requirements, supporting the path from development and testing to flight and commercial operation. Strong candidates have experience in: 

  • Certification & regulatory compliance
  • Systems safety processes following ARP4761 methodology
  • Requirement validation & verification
  • Use of Application Lifecycle Management tools 

 

 CABIN SYSTEMS 

Uses knowledge of static structures, mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing methods to design and implement changes to BETA’s Interiors, Doors, and Environmental Control Systems.  Strong candidates have experience in: 

  • Computer Aided Design using parametric modeling methods (Catia, SolidWorks, NX)
  • Design for manufacturing (DfM)
  • Static analysis using FEA or hand calculations
  • Prototype fabrication experience
  • Drafting test plans and procedures as well as test execution, and reporting. 

 

FLIGHT SCIENCES 

Uses aerodynamic, performance, loads, and handling analyses to understand aircraft behavior and inform efficient, capable, and safe aircraft design. Strong candidates have experience in: 

  • Aerodynamics, stability & control, propulsion and/or wind tunnel testing
  • Fixed-wing and rotorcraft systems
  • MATLAB/Simulink & Python
  • Aerospace tools such as AVL, XROTOR, XFOIL, CHARM or Pointwise
  • Aerodynamic modeling & data analysis 

 

 FLIGHT TEST ENGINEERING  

Plans and safely executes aircraft testing, gathers flight data, and supports engineering teams in turning flight data requests into actionable insights. Strong candidates have experience in: 

  • The principles of aerodynamics, control law theory, and system integration
  • Test planning, procedures, execution, and reporting
  • Multidisciplinary data collection & analysis
  • Test documentation & process improvement 

 

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN 

Shapes how BETA’s aircraft and products look, feel, and function, making complex aerospace systems intuitive, ergonomic, and user-focused. Strong candidates have experience in: 

  • Industrial Design workflow: sketching, 2D image generation, 3D CAD, 3D printing, and mock-ups
  • Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Alias, SolidWorks or similar CAD tools
  • Fabrication with plastics, metals, and/or wood 

 

LIFT KIT  

Develops the aircraft systems and hardware that enable vertical-lift capability, supporting efficient electric aircraft across a range of environments and missions. Strong candidates have experience in: 

  • 3D CAD (Onshape, SolidWorks, or CATIA) and FEA (ANSYS preferred)
  • Design and testing of metallic and composite structures for ultimate load and fatigue
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM) of composite structures
  • Instrumentation, data collection, and analysis 

  

MATERIALS & PROCESSES (M&P) 

Develops and validates materials, processes, and manufacturing methods through hands-on testing, engineering, and analysis. Strong candidates have experience in: 

  • Materials & mechanical testing
  • Test setup, procedures & specimen fabrication
  • Engineering design & analysis
  • Technical documentation 

  

TEST ENGINEERING 

Designs, builds, and executes tests to evaluate BETA’s components and systems, using hands-on experimentation and data to validate performance and inform aircraft development. Strong candidates have experience in: 

  • Structural design & testing
  • Test fixture design & fabrication
  • Battery & environmental testing
  • Data collection & analysis
  • Instrumentation Systems & Sensors
  • Electromagnetic Effects, Testing, & Design 

  

The wage listed here reflects our best faith estimate for this role. We pay competitively and base compensation on a variety of factors including skills, experience, industry background, and the evolving needs of the role.
