The Position    
Sunnova Energy is currently searching for a Associate, Capital Markets to be responsible for supporting Sunnova’s capital markets strategy. Working for a leader in solar energy finance, this role will provide valuable experience supporting Sunnova’s capital markets efforts in the residential solar sector. The Associate will help structure, negotiate, execute, and manage projects and corporate level debt and equity transactions, work collaboratively with investors and various groups in the company, and develop expertise in areas such as debt financing, tax equity, securitization, and strategic finance. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and communication skill, the ability to manage multiple workstreams, and an appetite and aptitude for complex financial engineering

Responsibilities

    • Creates and analyzes financial models for portfolios of residential solar systems
    • Supports the structuring and execution of project finance and other capital markets transactions
    • Coordinates with investors, lenders, rating agencies, and banks to manage transaction due diligence processes.
    • Collaborates with colleagues across the company to meet operational and reporting requirements of transactions
    • Delivers ad hoc analysis to support company planning efforts and senior level decision-making in a fast-paced environment
    • Supervises analysts in Sunnova’s Analyst Pool. Includes identification of work, supervision and mentoring, performance management
    • Leads execution of tax equity, asset backed securitization, revolving lending, project finance, and capital markets transactions

Minimum Requirements

    • Education required: Undergraduate degree in finance, economics or business administration
    • Minimum years of experience required: 3-7 years of relevant experience in an investment banking or structured finance role at a major financial institution or issuer and/or participation in an investment banking an analyst program
    • Extensive financial modelling experience
    • Ability to coach others, model effective and efficient behaviors, impose discipline and structure on financings. Ability to collaborate and cooperate with internal and external counterparties is critical to success

Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in renewable energy or asset level financing
    • Structured financing transaction experience, including debt, convertible debt, mezzanine debt/equity, etc

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate with executive management and other senior resources
    • Fluency in finance and valuation concepts and interpretation of financial statements
    • Detail-oriented, organized, with the ability to work well in fast-paced work environment
    • Strong work ethic and ability to research, identify and solve problems independently
    • Proficient in using business integrated systems, e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
