What we do:
The Senior Mass Properties Engineer will be responsible for building our analysis capabilities from the ground up and assisting in developing and tracking aircraft mass properties (MP) to assist with loads development, structural analysis development, aircraft performance trade studies, cost, and more. This position requires an expert in MP analysis and control during different phases of design/development to certification. This position will report to the Head of Systems Engineering and provides technical solutions for the MP Engineering Team.
What you can do:
- Leads and participates in system-level trades to ensure the vehicle design meets all physical, mechanical, and environmental requirements while accommodating the required payload, power, propulsion, thermal, communications, and attitude control system requirements
- Conduct advanced design weight estimation to develop preliminary weight estimate to support design proposals, prototyping efforts, trade studies, etc.
- Perform estimation, calculation, and measurement/verification of mass, center of mass, and inertias of components, assemblies, and completed vehicles or systems
- Develop the analysis methods and tools for mass properties estimation
- Estimate, calculate, and verify mass properties of components and assemblies in support of trade studies and drawing release
- Work with the broader engineering team to conduct multi-disciplinary trade studies to guide through design decisions
- Generate and maintain mass properties reports to key partners of various multi-functional teams
- Develop, support, and implement test plans
- Record, maintain, and own mass properties with a database
- Other duties as assigned
What you can contribute:
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, material science/engineering, physics, chemistry, or related engineering fields required; Master’s or PH.D., in Aerospace/Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering preferred
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a similar role within an aerospace organization (an equivalent combination of education experience may be considered.
- Aircraft Weight and Balance Certification
- Experience in CATIA V5/V6
- Familiarity with ATA100, SAWE RP A-7, RP7, and RP 8, or predecessor
- Experience with Mass Properties requirements
- Experience developing and maintaining a Mass Properties Management and Control Plan
- Experience with supplier/vendor requirements, monitoring, and weight control
- Experience with technical subject areas and principles of structures, aerodynamics, propulsions, avionics, interiors, flight test, and manufacturing
- Experience working on helicopter and/or tiltrotor systems
- Experience with aircraft conceptual design
- Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software such as 3D Experience
- Experience in aircraft (OEM) level systems engineering
- Proficiency with Jira (Agile tool)
- Experience with electric propulsion air or ground vehicle
- Experience with high-rate automotive manufacturing is preferred
- Experience with FAA or EASA certification projects
- Experience working with regulatory agencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proactive delivery of communication and follow up
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite
Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of total compensation.
The pay range for this position is:
$125,000 - $155,000 USD
