What we do: 

The Flight Technology Department is seeking a highly motivated Flight Simulation Engineer to contribute to the modeling, simulation, and analysis of air vehicle flight dynamics model, as well as to support flight testing through advanced engineering simulation activities.

This position is responsible for the planning and execution of flight simulation model development and refinement to enable comprehensive design, analysis, and testing of air vehicles across all phases of development from early conceptual design through to certification.

The Flight Simulation Engineer will work in close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Aerodynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Conceptual Design, Control Laws, Handling Qualities, Load and Dynamics, Intelligent Systems, and other engineering disciplines within Supernal.

What you can do:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of flight simulation activities supporting the design and analysis of air vehicles across various program phases
  • Assist in the development and refinement of flight dynamics simulation models utilizing CFD results and experimental test data
  • Support the evaluation of flight characteristics and handling qualities through simulation-based analysis
  • Perform post-processing of flight test data to support Qualification Test Guide (QTG) development in accordance with FAA Part 60
  • Assist in the execution of batch simulation processes within integrated simulation environments for QTG validation
  • Contribute to the development of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) methodologies for flight simulation model verification and validation (V&V)
  • Maintain and enhance real-time flight simulation environments for pilot-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing
  • Support the development of test procedures and assist in the execution of simulation-based tests
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as required in support of departmental objectives
  • Up to 25% of domestic and international travel 

What you can contribute:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience; a combination of education and equivalent experience may be considered
  • Demonstrated experience in developing engineering flight simulation models for the evaluation of novel technologies at both the vehicle and subsystem levels
  • Proficiency with physics-based rotorcraft comprehensive analysis and simulation tools such as FLIGHTLAB, RCAS, CAMRAD, DYMORE, CHARM, or similar
  • Solid foundational understanding of flight physics, including aerodynamics, structural dynamics, rotor aeromechanics, propulsion, and control systems, as they relate to advanced aircraft flight simulation
  • Hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink for the integration of flight control laws into dynamic simulation models
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts
  • Proven ability to proactively communicate and follow up to ensure alignment and progress
  • Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Ability to follow direction from lead and senior engineers and complete tasks within defined time constraints
  • Capability to independently prioritize and execute work effectively under time-sensitive conditions
  • Self-driven, motivated, and able to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment

 

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with FLIGHTLAB flight simulation software, Jira project management tools, and Jenkins CI/CI software development
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary flight simulation frameworks across varying levels of fidelity
  • Familiarity with FAA Part 60 regulations pertaining to the initial and continuing qualification and use of Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTDs)

 

Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of total compensation.

The pay range for this position is:

$120,000 - $150,000 USD
