The Logistics Transportation Manager will execute, direct, and coordinate inbound and outbound shipping and transportation distribution within the Regional territory of operations.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Responsible for hiring, termination, corrective action, and daily scheduling management of Regional Logistics administrative team.
  2. Oversees the coordination and routing of shipments within the assigned territory.
  3. Directs dispatching and routing activities and tracks Commercial trucks through digital automation systems.
  4. Ensures that customer difficulties or problems are investigated and resolved.
  5. Negotiates and secures contracts with transportation providers and customers.
  6. Directs all maintenance, repair, and replacement of shipping equipment or vehicles.
  7. Provides input to management regarding transportation operating efficiency leveraging the TMS, in coordination with district and branch management, to improve cost or service.
  8. Maintains knowledge of best practices including the most efficient and cost-effective shipping methods.
  9. Maintains knowledge of regulations related to transportation including those related to hazardous shipments, employee safety, and freight classifications.
  10. In collaboration with Logistics Director and Human Resources, develops and implements policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for transportation operations.
  11. Ensures compliance with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, environmental policies, and government regulations.
  12. Reviews, audits, analyzes and approves expenditures and other financial information; uses results to develop and implement plans, policies, and budgets.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This is a managerial role which requires direct and effective oversight of the Regional Logistics operations. Must demonstrate excellent time management, coordination, and self-management skills.

 

Work Environment

This job operates primarily in a professional retail environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and e-filing systems. The employee will be expected to work outside in all weather conditions and must have suitable clothing. They must have the ability and willingness to work in adverse conditions, not just in extreme weather but enclosed spaces. The employee will be expected to work around and with machinery that distributes loud noises and exhaust. Personal Protective gear is provided by the employer. This position does require handling and operating of heavy equipment which may introduce a high risk to slips, trips and falls.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. While this position is primarily sedentary, the employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift products and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, expected to work 45 hours per week. Days and hours can change at the discretion of the Logistics Director; though typical hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Some weekend hours will be necessary, typically in our busier harvesting season (typically March-August from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.).

 

Travel

This position requires up to 25% travel time.

 

Required Education and Experience

  1. High school degree and business discipline.
  2. Class A CDL experience.
  3. Minimum 4+ years of shipping experience.
  4. Exceptional interpersonal, customer service, leadership, problem-solving, verbal and written communication, and conflict resolution skills
  5. Must be 19 years of age or older.
  6. Pre-employment background check and drug screening required.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Experience with FMCSA and DOT regulations specific to Agricultural shipping laws.
  2. Experience with turfgrass sod and seed in a retail setting.
  3. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or similar field.
  4. Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) strongly preferred but not required.
  5. Proficient in CRM software (HubSpot, SingleOps)
  6. Proficient in Logistics Software

Base Salary Range: 
$65,000 – $75,000 annually (commensurate with experience, region complexity, and CDL regulatory scope) 

Additional Compensation: 

  • Performance Bonus: 
    • Eligible for annual performance bonus based on results in the following areas: 
      • Driver & public safety compliance (DOT/FMCSA standards, accident reduction) 
      • Preventative maintenance and repair compliance 
      • Transportation support for sales revenue goals (delivery timeliness, customer satisfaction) 
      • Financial performance (budget adherence, cost-per-mile targets) 
      • Achievement of department-specific quarterly and annual KPIs 
    • Target bonus = 10% of base salary, paid quarterly. 

Total Compensation Potential: 
$72,000 – $85,000 annually (base + target bonus)
