Are you a safety-minded, mechanically inclined individual who enjoys hands-on work and operating heavy equipment outdoors?
As a Super-Sod Harvesting Operator, you will be responsible for overseeing the performance and maintenance of a range of mechanical farming equipment—including tractors, sod harvesters, and irrigation systems—to support all aspects of sod production and harvesting. You'll also perform routine maintenance and contribute to the overall efficiency of farm operations. This role requires stamina, precision, and a strong commitment to teamwork and safety.
Under limited supervision, the General Ag Mechanic performs work of moderate difficulty in the operation of various mechanical farm equipment, such as tractors and sod harvesters; performs related farm and harvesting work as assigned.
Essential Functions

- Operates various mechanical equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, loaders, and irrigation equipment to perform diagnostic-based maintenance.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines.
- Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling, as necessary.
- Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance.
- Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts.
- Orders and installs replacement parts for machines.
- Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
- Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently.
- Prepares reports documenting work performed.
- Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
- Coordinates with farm managers and supervisors to schedule regular maintenance or repairs on machines.
- Makes necessary modifications and implements tests runs; confers with farm manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has limited supervisory responsibilities. This position may be asked to assist in new hire training.
Work Environment
This job operates in exposure to direct sunlight and weather 90% of the time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This job also operates in an office and, in some cases, from a remote location.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This employee requires full range of motion of arms and legs and requires constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
Typical/ Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours can change at the discretion of the Farm Manager, though typical hours of work Monday-Friday are:
Winter & Fall 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM · Spring & Summer 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM
Travel
Requires little to no travel time.
Required Education and Experience
- 2+ years of vocational experience or training in mechanics
- Heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
- Experience with farm equipment maintenance preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- All potential new hires will be subjected to a pre-employment background check and drug screen
Hourly Pay Range
$18 - $25 USD
