Using discretion and independent judgement, the Store Assistant Manager will establish and implement short and long-range objectives for the assigned location, oversee related functions and activities, and administer company policies and procedures.
Essential Functions

- Monitors departmental performance, identifying and facilitating opportunities to increase sales,
productivity and efficiency. - Manages daily aspects of the department and its staff to ensure projects are completed and goals and
customer needs are met. - Collaborates with Store Manager to plan and coordinate programs and projects.
- Collaborates with Store Managers to analyze costs, benefits, and losses of company profits.
- Drafts, submits, and presents various performance and management reports.
- Manages both customer and employee conflict and resolves complaints about or within the department.
- Assist Store Manager with daily and monthly inventory.
- Assist Store Manager in monitoring the service and delivery of product to all customers served by location.
- Prepares weekly sales and inventory reports to properly report on previous week’s performance; assist Store Manager in overseeing administrative duties at location.
- Represents the organization with all referral sources; customers, potential clients, partnering companies and vendors.
- Communicates as needed with Outside Sales and Parent Administrative team concerning new developments and/or customer and employee related issues.
- Participates in the interviewing, hiring, training and firing of employees.
- Responsible for coaching, teaching, implementing, inspecting and upholding a safe culture and work environment at the location.
- Occasionally opens and closes facility a minimum of 30 minutes before/after normal business hours.
- Communicates with members of other nodes to effectively support customer service and experience.
- Maintains storefront, displays and inside working areas to ensure workspaces are clean and accessible by employees and customers
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
At the discretion of the Store Manager, this position coordinates and oversees the day-to-day workflow of subordinate staff within the store; assist with hiring, performance coaching and disciplinary action of location staff.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional retail environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, digital filing systems and payment processing machines. The employee will be expected to work outside in all weather conditions and must have suitable clothing. They must have the ability and willingness to work in adverse conditions, not just including extreme weather but enclosed spaces and heights up to 8 feet. The employee will be expected to work around and with machinery that distributes loud noises and exhaust. Personal Protective gear is provided by the employer. This position does require handling and operating of heavy equipment which may introduce a high risk to slips, trips and falls.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, lift, push, pull, stoop, or bend. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. This employee requires full range of motion of arms and legs and requires movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity and coordination. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift products and office supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours can change at the discretion of the Store Manager, though typical hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday work required as job duties demand (typically during harvesting season, March-November, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.).
Travel
This position requires little to no travel time.
Required Education and Experience
- One year of supervisory experience.
- Associate degree in Business or equivalent in similar experience
- Face-to-face / counter sales experience.
- Sales and Customer Service experience.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Pre-employment background check and drug screening required.
Preferred Education and Experience
- 2+ years of experience with turfgrass sod and seed in a retail setting.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communication, or Business Management.
- Additional education in turf management, horticulture, or similar field of study.
- Bilingual skills in English / Spanish are a big plus.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Must be 19 years of age or older.
- All potential new hires will be subjected to a pre-employment background and motor vehicle check and drug screen.
- To perform essential job duties, all potential new hires must be eligible to drive a company vehicle according to Super-Sod insurance guidelines:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- No major safety and moving violations reported on MVR within the past (3) years.
Major violations include but are not limited to:
- Felony convictions
- Automobile insurance canceled or not renewed by an insurance company due to excessive tickets, accidents, points, or fraud.
- Convicted of alcohol or drug related offense while driving.
- Convicted of three or more speeding violations or serious moving violations; moving violations include texting or cell phone violations.
- Been involved in two or more chargeable accidents.
Hourly Pay Range
$22 - $25 USD
