Location: Must be located in New York or surrounding area.
The Associate, Business Development is responsible for supporting profitable growth across the assigned market. The Associate will work closely with the Divisional Director of Business Development and Market Director of Business Development to grow market share among existing physician partners, identify new physician and business development opportunities, and support the execution of priority growth initiatives. The Associate will identify opportunities to increase procedure volume among existing physician partners, particularly physicians who utilize competing facilities, and develop relationships that support increased utilization of Surgery Partners facilities. The Associate will also identify and qualify new physician, group, referral, and other market opportunities and partner with the Market Director to advance and execute those opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Grow Existing Physician Relationships
- Identify existing physicians with opportunity to increase procedure volume at Surgery Partners facilities.
- Prioritize “splitter” physicians based on potential volume and opportunity.
- Develop and execute targeted outreach plans in partnership with the Market Director.
- Conduct regular physician outreach, including calls, office visits, and meetings.
- Identify barriers to growth and work with market and facility leadership to address them.
- Track progress and communicate opportunities, challenges, and next steps to market leadership.
Identify & Develop New Opportunities
- Build and maintain relationships with physicians, physician groups, and other key stakeholders across the New York market.
- Identify and qualify new physician recruitment and partnership opportunities.
- Conduct initial outreach and discovery conversations with prospective physician partners.
- Maintain an organized pipeline of prospects, opportunities, and next steps.
- Partner with the Market Director to advance qualified opportunities and coordinate meetings with appropriate market and facility leadership.
- Surface other market opportunities, including referral relationships, acquisitions, DeNovo opportunities, and other growth opportunities.
Market Intelligence & Support
- Maintain a strong understanding of the local physician and competitive landscape.
- Identify changes in the market that may create growth opportunities or physician retention risks.
- Maintain accurate physician and opportunity information in the CRM.
- Provide ad hoc business development support to the New Hampshire and Rhode Island markets as needed.
- Participate in market business development meetings and provide updates on key relationships and opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience
- 2–4 years of experience in business development, sales, healthcare services, physician relations, account management, or a related field.
- Healthcare experience preferred.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and consistently follow through.
- Comfortable interacting with physicians, physician practices, and market leadership.
- Willingness to travel throughout the assigned market.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Ability to hunt and find new business and bring an opportunity from start to finish (close the deal).
- Motivated, proactive, positive attitude, self-starter with a strong desire to learn and grow in a sales-oriented role.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with a CRM, Salesforce (preferred).
