Accounting & Benefits Specialist
Surgical Notes is hiring for an Accounting & Benefits Specialist to assist the Corporate Controller in managing payroll and benefits. The ideal candidate has excellent organizational and communication skills, with the desire and ability to learn quickly. Working as a part of the team to meet deadlines, but also being able to work independently is crucial to the success in this position. Reports to: Accounting Lead
Responsibilities:
- Time Management (time off request, timecards review, etc.)
- Process payroll bi-weekly with accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with payroll regulations.
- Maintain payroll records and resolve discrepancies.
- Manage and process 401(k) contributions and transactions.
- Support employees with 401(k) plans.
- Administer HSA and FSA plans.
- Educate employees on HSA and FSA benefits.
- Oversee employee benefits programs (health, dental, vision, life insurance).
- Assist with benefits enrollment and changes.
- Coordinate with benefits providers.
- Utilize UKG software for payroll and benefits.
- Troubleshoot UKG system issues.
- Train employees on UKG tools.
- Assist accounting with onboarding of new customer profiles
- Support AR team with invoicing and payments.
- Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Provide backup support for AR functions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Role Information:
- Full-Time
- Working within our business operating hours of 6am-8pm Central
- Salaried, 45 hours weekly
- Eligible for Benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA, 401(k) with match)
- Remote: The minimum bandwidth requirements are 10 Mbps upload and 50 Mbps download speeds. The recommended bandwidth requirements are 20 Mbps upload and 100 Mbps download speeds.
Job Requirements:
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Education:
- Pass an assessment to demonstrate skills.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
- 6 years of accounting, payroll, and/or benefits experience
- Prior experience with a large ERP (NetSuite preferred)
- Prior experience cold calling and/or speaking with customers or clients
- Applicable knowledge of GAAP
- Moderate skills with Microsoft Excel (Pivot Table, Lookup functions, etc.)
- Critical thinking skills with ability to spot issues and bring to resolution
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and speed while working within tight deadlines
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Exceptional ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to multi-task
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to pivot and reprioritize
- Outstanding communications skills; both verbal and written
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Education:
- Medium to large company accounting experience
- Experience working in an Ancillary/Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)
- Strong Microsoft Office skills in Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Previous experience with UKG
