Job Summary
The Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS) Specialist acts as Surmodics Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability Specialist for Ireland facilities. The Position serves as subject matter expert on all company related EHSS requirements. Primary responsibilities include conducting EHSS training, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, updating, organizing, and maintaining all EHSS related records, updating EHSS policy documents and procedures, and act as primary haz/non-haz waste coordinator.

Responsibilities
• Promote a culture of EHSS excellence and provide high-quality EHSS technical knowledge.
• Take the day-to-day lead for Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability management and performance across the business.
• Carry out regular site audits / inspections across the business activities and producing risk assessments.
• Ensure all EHSS KPI’s are achieved and communicate to management
• Ensure that any accidents are reported, investigated, and effectively closed out. Actively share lessons learnt from any incident investigations and ensure practical and sustainable corrective actions are in place.
• Promote a consistent incident reporting culture across the company including the use of Near Miss reporting.
• Regular review and development of risk assessments, method statements for any site activities including construction
• Ensure that the risks and control measures associated with the company’s activities are identified and that appropriate management systems are in place and working effectively.
• Performing and Co-ordinating hazard and risk assessments for manufacturing equipment.
• Ensuring equipment meets appropriate safety requirements.
• Ensure all hazardous wastes leaves site and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Act as a team member for Chemical Spill Response and Medical Emergency Response teams; manage associated response procedures and coordinate required training sessions for team members.
• Promote a consistent incident reporting culture across the company including the use of Near Miss reporting.
• Ensure all relevant internal training is complete Manual Handling, Forklift Training, Emergency Response Training Fire Evacuation, etc.
• Recommend safety standards and procedures in accordance with company and regulatory requirements and assist facility personnel in plant-wide implementation and maintenance of safety standards and procedures.
• Site Lead for any HSA Audits.
• Site lead for ISO14001 Environmental Management & ISO45001 Occupational health and safety management Systems.

Minimum Qualifications
• Professional qualification in a health & safety discipline
• 1-3 years’ experience in health and safety is essential
• Excellent communication, leadership & presentation skills.
• Proficient use and knowledge of software such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
• Medical Device Experience would be advantageous
