What we’re looking for

We're seeking a motivated Junior Android Developer to join our team. This role is perfect for someone with a foundational understanding of Android development who is eager to grow their skills in a supportive environment.

What you’ll be working on

• Develop and maintain Android applications under the guidance of senior developers
• Design, build and maintain scalable and highly available services across multiple data regions while writing high-quality back-end code 
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features
• Identify and fix bugs and performance bottlenecks
• Participate in code reviews and implement feedback
• Stay updated with the latest Android development / backend practices and technologies
• Own features end to end, including crafting technical specs, writing readable and extensible code, and following software best practices which allow us to move quickly
• Build observable systems that track important metrics that help monitoring as well as make important product decisions 
• Foster a culture of collaboration, testing, code reviews, and mentorship to help the team reach their full potential 

 We’d love to hear from people with

• 3+ years' experience in web / mobile application development mainly focused on the backend 
• Basic knowledge of Android SDK, different versions of Android, and how to deal with different screen sizes
• Experience with Java and/or Kotlin programming languages
• Understanding of Restful APIs and JSON
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git preferred)
• Basic understanding of software design patterns
• Expertise in designing and building world-class services and APIs 
• Experience with Python and frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, Pyramid 
• Strong fundamentals in object-oriented programming and design patterns 
• Experience with ORM frameworks and SQL/NoSQL databases, experience with Elasticsearch a plus 
• Experience with messaging and streaming frameworks like Kafka, Apache Spark, etc. a plus
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with both co-located and remote engineers and cross-functional partners 
• A growth/data mindset in approaching challenges

As such, this opportunity is hybrid and requires you to work from the SurveyMonkey office in Bengaluru 3 days per week.
