What we’re looking for

We are seeking a high-impact Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to join the SurveyMonkey team. This is a role for a builder who cares about code quality and system architecture. You will play a pivotal role in designing and maintaining the backend systems that power our multi-tenant SaaS platforms.As part of the GFB Digital Team, you will own and elevate the high-performance services driving our growth. You’ll ensure our robust systems continue to scale elegantly while staying optimized for peak performance.

What you’ll be working on

  • You will own features from architecture planning and implementation to deployment and monitoring, ensuring production-ready code delivery.
  • Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs (REST/GraphQL) that balance engineering complexity with timely business delivery.
  • Work on modernizing existing systems and optimizing database performance across both Relational (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) datastores.
  • Improve CI/CD pipelines and utilize Observability tools (Open Telemetry) to enhance deployment workflows and troubleshoot production issues effectively.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence by conducting code reviews, writing tests, and collaborating with other engineers to help the team reach its full potential.

We’d love to hear from people with

  • 5 to 8 years of professional backend development experience, with a track record of shipping robust code in a SaaS environment.
  • Deep proficiency in at least one major Object-Oriented language (PHP/Java/Python) with the ability to adapt to others. Experience with frameworks like Laravel, Django, Flask, or Spring
  • Solid experience with SQL (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB), specifically regarding schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning for high-scale data.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) for building scalable, containerized applications.
  • Experience in automated testing (PHPUnit, PyTest, JUnit) and debugging, with the ability to troubleshoot complex, large-scale systems.
  •  Strong collaboration and mentorship skills. 
  • Experience using AI development tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, or Cursor to accelerate development workflows.

As such, this opportunity is hybrid and requires you to work from the SurveyMonkey office in Bengaluru 3 days per week.
